All the new cans sold seem to have that crappy vent in the spout. I want something that dumps fuel.

Does anyone know of an aftermarket vent tube/system that can be installed on my cheap $8.00 cans?

If possible just syphon. You can drain 5 gallons into a boat in like 15/20 sec, vent or no vent.
Just run a hose that goes into the gas can very snug to the boat... then just squeeze the side of the can and it FLYS

I see the dimples on the can. You could use a vent.

I use the Hunsaker cans, They are pricey, but I got 3 for $25 on craig's list. Look them up and see if this is what you are looking for.

I used to use the 13 gallon hunsaker cans, have since switched to a 15 gallon gas caddy, pumps slow, but I set it up then walk away. ( load boat up, ect)

The price of those cans is crazy. Somebody must make an aftermarket breather that can be screwed into the standard can.

Adam,

Are those 13 gallon jugs a little awkward? Your looking at something in excess of 75#.

the 6 gallon cans are about all I would want. If I had the 13, I would need two people to pour those, it would be awkward in both weight and size.

The siphon is soo powerful it makes the dimples, like if you had the power to squeeze all of the liquid out without air taking its place in the can, most people cannot, gravity can, it never quits... it gets it all out despite not have air come in.... just as soon as you break the suction air rushes in... thats how it works, if air gets into the "system" the process slows/stops.

I'm so tired of smelling and spilling fuel out of those cheap cans it seems like the Hunsaker cans will make me happy or at least my hands and car won't stink. I hope I can find a deal like Troys.

Tim, there're not light. They dump so fast it's not too bad ( literally under 10 seconds). One person can do it.

Try any motorcross websites, they use the 6 gallon cans all the time.

I'll second nick and the siphon, that is generally how we do it.

The siphon seems quick but I'm tired of the leaking caps on my cheap Blitz cans during transport and I don't want to handle a hose covered with fuel. I've also been in two cars where the top heavy jugs have fallen over. I always "pin" my jugs in the SUV. I can survive with three good boat cans and I'll retire my 8 blitz cans to the hurricane supply kit.

IF you have a truck/SUV, this one is awesome. The weight is not that bad, and the tires are very durable. I think the big yellow diesle one is cheaper for some reason.

On the end post on my dock I made my own gas filler out of pvc. I took a piece of 4" pvc about 18" long, then put a 4x1 reducer, a pvc ball valve, then a short piece of 1". Then took a hose clamp and attached a 6' piece of clear flexible tubing. Stick the tube right in the gas fill of the boat open the valve and dump the 5 gallon container into the 4". It will take 5 gallons in about 20 seconds. When I don't need it I put a 4" cap on it. I swear it would take me a half hour and a soar back to fill 20 gallons with those stupid ventless cans. I wish I had a pic. Maybe when camp opens up.

Great idea John! Dump your 5 gallon cans into it as you need it until the tank in the boat is full. Gravity fed and just use the ball valve to stop the flow rather than tipping a can into a floating boat and holding it. Great idea for a private lake where multiple people could use the device to fill their boats.

Slick idea!

Thanks Kraig. Yeah there is no gas station on my lake, so this works pretty good.

I have the same setup as John but don't have any pics either. There was a post a couple of years ago on how to make one. They work great.

No picture necessary, your description of the PVC setup is clear. Another great option for my boat house and I probably have the material in the garage. I would add a shelf that I could set the can on while it empties. Thanks.

I went with the model on Stan's dock with a little larger hose like John's. Works really really well!
I took pictures last summer to share...I have no idea what I"ve done with them and I never shared them. If I'm bored this weekend I'll wander down the yard and take a couple of it.

+1 for the siphon, I'll never lift another gas can on the dock again

EDIT: search "simple siphon" on ebay. It works great and solves the vent problem at the same time

This is the only one I have on my laptop.
If I did this again - I'd put a 90 at the bottom instead of the straight down. I only use the cover to keep spiders, spider poo and water out. I don't even use the nozzles on the gas cans anymore. I just open the vent and pour. It takes it as fast as it comes out of the can.

That is a great device Brooke,
Could you post some more pics of that thing I might try to make one of those.

I was thinking on the car you should put some sort of check valve pointing up so that if there were fumes left in the device and the heat got o it the check valve would release the excess pressure caused by the heat.

What are y'alls thought on that

Preston

The top cap is just set in place. I would think the pressure would just raise the cap a little but not all the way off. Also, I see the valve is open.

I only have the valve so that if I have the whole tube full and the boat gets full I can turn it off without a huge mess. I've found it faster to just pull the hose out and hold it up in the air though, or put it back in the can. Not that it has happened :-)

this picture is from a month ago - it's supposed to be warm this weekend, so the rest of the snow should melt and I"ll probably take my little dude out on the lake to play on the warm day. I'll snap a couple more while I'm down there. You can see the lift in the upper right corner of this one though :-)

Just siphon it, It's cheap and it's really fast. I've seen it done and I don't think there is a better method.

Calif has some strange rules, like when you are in the headshop don't say "can I please look at the michael phelps bong?" you must call it a water pipe by law, likewise if you go into the motorcycle shop and ask where the 6 gallon gas cans are they will look at you like you are from outerspace since something called "CARB" outlawed those cans so you will need to ask for a 6 gallon Utility Can...LOL

I use the ones from http://vpracingfuels.com/productsByCategory.asp?strSubCatalogID=20&curCatal ogID=10004&strSubCatalog_NAME=CONTAINERS

they work well, don't spill, and are vented to pour fairly quickly, buy the spout they sell and you are good to go.

Do the syphon mentioned by Nick above with the picture. It works great, is super simple, and cheap.
