I was running my 04 Ski Sanger V215 for a short time and I felt the tranny slip. Seconds later the V-drive light came on along with a buzzer. I shut down the boat and saw steam coming from the engine compartment. I noticed tranny fluid in the hull and my dip stick was white. Boatmasters is telling me in need a new tranny without even breaking down the tranny...$2850.00 Any ideas??? Should i get a second opinion?

Mercury does not sell tranny parts. If you want yours fixed you will have to find a dealer with access to vevlet drive parts and the know how to rebuild it

If your fluid was milky the failure could have been in the heat exchanger/cooler. After flushing the old fluid and water out the tranny might survive
I'm not a boat tranny expert.

I would call Discount Inboard Marine just to see what they thought.

whats transmission? The v-drive or the velvet drive... there is 2 right? If its the velvet drive they're pretty easy to work on... my buddy rebuilt one himself for like 3-350 in parts from ski dim... I think a whole velvet drive only costs like 1700 new... 2850-
