What is the best amp for one JL W713? I was looking at the JL 1000 Mono amp and the Rockford Fosgate 20001BD mono amp which I'm not sure but might be to big? I want the best amp to allow this sub to perform to its best.

1000/1

IMO JL limits the potential amps used to push this sub by making the sub a dual 1.5 ohm. Most big amps won't make their power at that resistance. One major reason why I don't like the w7. There are a number of good amps that would make that slam @ 1ohm, ( at half the price fo the jl 1000/1).

Yes you can run the W7 series off the 1000/1 but from what Ive read and heard from others it requires a lot more power to really bring the beast out.

Digital Designs Z1 should do the trick if you need a little power.

KG's right

The dule 1.5 home 13 W7 can be hooked up so the both Voice coils are being used to make a 3 ohm load. That's how most people run that sub. Either hook a 1000/1 to each side of the sub or run the Rockford.

That Rockford should push that 13 way better than the 1000/1

Where you thinking about mounting the sub in your boat. My advice is to run it in to open Air dont have the sub shooting into the floor or into the hull. My 2c

Grant, why? I have a 10w7 and have found it is loudest when facing the hull.

I've got mine running off a 1000/1 and must say when I do it again I'd go for something with a little more balls. That or just 2 1000/1's. Matt A.

2 things, will the rockford 20001bd be plenty or is their a better amp then that? And I'm a little confused when you say open air vs shooting down on the hull?

Basically what I'm trying to say is I want a amp that will allow this sub to perform to its best and not over kill the amp, so If I need a bigger amp and turn down the gains then maby that would be better for the amp then having one maxed out all the time???

Cal: I have 2 12W-7's shooting into Open air and 2 More 12 W-7s shooting into the hull. #1 I can flex the hell out of the side of my boat from the Bass SPL comming of the sub's. Im not trying to brag. My boat is solid as hell in the aera Im talking about
Passenger side just below the window on the hull.
The 2 12's shooting agianst the hull shakes or moves the side of my boat so much that I know it can be good for it. Plus the added vibration that comes off the hull shake the rest of the boat neadlessly. My tower reverbrates bass. Simply placing your hand on the flat bar section quites it down but I think you get the point. My boat is a extreem example of the point Im trying to make. 1 10 inch sub is not gonna do much but 1 or 2 W-7 13's and your gonna start moving things around.

IMO the bass want to be "free" so don't trap it or try to make your system louder by bouncing bass waves off of things that rattle or can move around your boats gonna pay the ultimate price eventually. The sub box that sits at my feet(drivers side) has 2 12's The bass wave comes right off that box and bounces into who or what ever is sitting in that seet and it sounds and feels so Awesome. IMO the Bass is more accurate and clean because it not bouncing off of anything and picking up the vibration from what its bouncing off of. Yes you loose lots of SPL shooting in to open air the Bass seems to some how evaporate because it dosen't have anything to bounce off of. "Welcome to boating" and boat system's. My cure for this problem. More sub's more Amps more battery's MORE BASS. Not the answer your looking for but its the truth. Yes there's other way's of doing it ask around everyone will tell you somthing diffrent. Search around till you hear somthing that your wallet agrees with and pull the trigger.

I think that the 13 W-7 is one of the most beautiful sounding sub's I have ever heard. What makes that thing hump is POWER. Somthing north of 1300-1500 watts. If you can keep amp's that will provide 1300 to 1500 watts of power fed with 12 volt love Juice you can make that sucker BOUNCE "god bless america"

WOW all thins talk of Bouncing W-7's has me excited of Summer.

BTW the system Above was done by Clay "Biggie" Big-ness. Its a SAN 210 with 3 12 W-7's being powerd by 3 ARC SE 23OO's.
Photo's by Mike Ski and his super fast cammera.

That last pic is crazy!! Thanks for the elaboration, Grant. Against the hull has worked well for me, but then again I have just 1 10w7. The vibration issue makes sense given the amount of air that a 13w7 pushes...

1000/1v2. Make sure you have the charging system and the enclosure to support that combination. 1000/1 is POWER hungry and the 13w7 will jump out of a poorly built box.

Grant,
Is that a ported box or is it sealed?

Grant is right i think about the open air vs. against hull idea. But holy hell 3 w713's!! thats crazy, i bet your boat makes tidal waves when it thumps! haha

The black pannel your seeing is a trim pannel. Its not the box. The box is behind the trim pannel.
The hole is for a heater tube that has not been installed.
