So, I bought a Supra 21v this year because I really wanted to get into wakeboarding. After a few stretched knees, ankles, and a few more face plants I tried surfing. I havn't looked back.

Now, I want to sell my boat in the spring and get a boat that will throw a MONSTER wave off the port side.

With a budget of NO MORE than 45k, what boat would you guys recommend?

if anyone has any pictures or first hand experience, that would be great.

centurion avalanche base price is $45k the hulls been around for a long time so you could find a used one for under that

I say, keep the Supra... That's a nice looking boat and you should be able to get a decent Surf Wave out of it with some weight.

so far there are alot of votes for the sangers... is the v215 a 21 foot boat? i'm guessing so... my supra is a 21 and it just doesn't cut it for me... even with 2k+ of ballast... not even counting people.. i can get PLENTY of height, just no length.

the second pic of dennis's is what i'm looking for. the length is perfect.. maybe a little taller, but i wouldn't complain about that AT ALL!!

how much are the enzos? any pics?

Are you talking new or used boats. Used boats open a whole range of possibilities. The Enzo supposed to be the bomb, someday I hope to get a chance to surf behind one. The Avalanche is the best I’ve surfed behind but I don’t know if you can get one for 45K OTD maybe within striking range. You can definitely get a year or so old Avy for under 45K, maybe even a 2004 Enzo.

I surfed behind a Supra 21 SSV. The boat wasn't sacked out to the max. We have a crew of about 8 and GG ballast. I could barely stay in the pocket. The 21 SV is my favorite wakeboard hull and I haven't had many surfing opportunities, but I don't think it's the best surf hull choice. The older, circa 2004, 22 SV hull is supposed to be quite good.

That Svfara is unreal but it is pricier than an Xstar I believe. I saw one at the Seattle boat show going for 79 I think. They look amazing but due to their low production #s they fetch a high dollar.

Now for your question I have a Centurion Elite V C4 and for the money it is absolutely fantastic.

If strictly surfing's your deal now, look into a used enzo. You should be able to find a deal this winter on one. That's the only boat out there that will throw the monster wave you crave without having the entire inside, and storage compartments of the boat filled with fatsacs, and stay within your budget. That sucks if you have people on board.
Old     (crushing76)      Join Date: Feb 2007       11-13-2007, 5:24 PM Reply
yeah, having fat sacs all over the place is pretty annoying when you have a crew with you...

BIGSHOW, i'm definitely in the market for a used boat. I pretty much figured that I would need a boat bigger than a 21 footer to get the large wake i'm looking for.

I really dont even care about the wakeboarding wake. It's secondary to me. I'm really not all that concerned about the wake on "the dark side" (as surfdad says) either.

I really like the internal ballast of the epic, but i'm really not sure if i like the way it looks, AND it's a little out of my price range.

Is the enzo's hull the same in '04 as it is now?

how does the avalanche's wakesurf wave compare to the enzo's?
Old     (crushing76)      Join Date: Feb 2007       11-13-2007, 5:48 PM Reply
which enzo? which avy? i tried to get on the centurion website to price them, and it wasn't working... anyone else having that prob?

anyone looking to buy a 2007 supra 21v, decked out with (almost)every option except the 340hp engine? it also has an aftermarket sound system...

i babied it, and it has about 90hrs. it's never even been above 30mph!
Old     (05mobiuslsv)      Join Date: Apr 2006       11-13-2007, 5:57 PM Reply
A new enzo will be way out of your price range, you might be able to come close on a dealer demo/holdover boat. Go to onlyinboards.com and boattrader.com and price them. I think there is one or two in the classifieds as well.
Old     (masonwakerider)      Join Date: May 2003       11-13-2007, 6:08 PM Reply
04-08 enzo sv230's have the same hull. Throw in an enzo sac from fly high 1500lbs all hidden and you'll be rolling. Chech out the inlandsurfer.com site for wake pictures.
In 07 centurion introduced the enzo sv240 and sv216(now sv220) the 240 is basicly a 230 streached an inch. The 216 have a very differnt hull.

as for avalanches they have had the same hull for as long as they've been built. An enzo sac will fit in it as well.

For ether of these boat's i'd try to get one with the trim tap / wake plate. It really lets you dial the wake in.
Old     (bigshow)      Join Date: Feb 2005       11-13-2007, 8:23 PM Reply
Both the Avalanche and Enzo 230 are excellent surf hulls. I've only ridden behind the Avy. I've never seen Centurion post a MSRP. I'm confident that a new Enzo will be well over $45K. A used Enzo should be with in range and a used Avalanche should most definitely be in range.

I haven't seen enough about the 216 Enzo to make a suggestion.

I have had lighter riders ridin' 20-25 feet back on the wave thrown by my V215. Their 21'6" long with a 96" beam for some reason the throw a super long wave longer than my buddy's natique and another guy we ride with's Malibu VLX.
Old     (crushing76)      Join Date: Feb 2007       11-14-2007, 9:52 PM Reply
TWENTY TO TWENTY FIVE FEET BACK!!!??? How high was the wave? The person didn't happen to weigh about 170lbs?

How did the wave height compare to the VLX, and how were both boats weighted?

I'm not able to get more than 5 feet off my swim deck, TOPS.

I have an Centurion Elite V C4. throws a huge wake when weighted done. You can get them brand new for under 45K.
Here is the Dark side wake about 20 feet long and above the knee to hip depending on where the weight is at. Port side is massive. Almost always hip high and long. No picks though we don't ride that side that often.

I’ve never seen a picture of a Falcon in the water much less the surf wake that they make. I love my Centurion but wouldn't say that the Falcon is a recommended surf hull until some one - anyone has at least put it in the water first.

Michael, would you say that the port side wave is bigger than your dark side wave on your elite v c4?

that wave is looking pretty nice. what kind of weight is in it?
Old     (dennish)      Join Date: May 2005       11-15-2007, 6:33 PM Reply
Hey C.R.
Just for clarification. On my Sanger V215 I have no sacs exposed or in the seating area at all. Everything is stock ballast plus 500# lead in the locker and an additional sac in the compartment to finish the weighting.
Old     (michealhoward)      Join Date: May 2007       11-16-2007, 6:58 AM Reply
C.R. The port side is a lot bigger. Can hit hip high without as much weight. Also it cleans up easier. The Elite V is the same hull as the Lighting.

I can have anywhere from 1500# to 2200# on one side. Port side I only run about 1500# plus people. Dark side The most i have ever had was 2200# plus 5 people on that side of the boat. The only way you can run that much on one side is to seal off the vent on that side. Because the water can come up over the vent. So you have to re run the blower vent to aonther location.

If I would of did more research into buying a surf boat before we bought it I would of bought an AVY instead. For the price the Elite is awesome. I think it is the best boat you can get for the money. But for only a few extra G's you can get a larger boat that has more room and a little better surf wake.

what about the malibu 23 lsv? i know it's more than 45k, but does it throw a good wave? the pics the guy sent me look OKAY, (and they were dark side) but wouldn't justify the extra money... i don't know how he had it weighted though.

specifically, the port side.

i hate that the centurion website doesn't list msrp's... what a pain.
Old     (michealhoward)      Join Date: May 2007       11-16-2007, 11:40 AM Reply
I have surfed behind a Malibu. I think it was the LSV but not sure. It puts out a good wake. The only think I did not like about it was that the Swim platform is in the water when it is weighted so it adds this weird lip to the wake about 3/4 of the way up. The lower part is steeper the the upper part so it makes for a weird transition. It take some getting use too but still not a bad wake.

Yep....it's the "Diamond" hull, not the "wakesetter" hull. The diamond hull is supposed to be a better crossover boat (so it's supposed to be good for skiing too).

Here are a couple of pictures of Micheal Howard behind the boat.

Donnie,
Great looking wave from your VLX with the diamond hull. I have an '07 VLX with the diamond hull and am looking for weighting advice for surfing. Currently we have the stock MLS system (including the bow) with power wedge. Have you added additional weight? If so, I would love to hear about it. Thanks in advance for the help.

I paid 46K for an 05' enzo that was new. It was the dealer's demo. We've got the port side wake really dialed in. Darkside (my side) is still a problem. We're running 1300lbs on the port side and usually have two people in the boat one in the water. For reference my buddy in 6'3 and weighs about 240. We've gotten this wake up to thigh high on him. We've been out with three other people in the boat and the pocket on the port side is really long.

Hey Robert. Here's the setup for my Malibu.

+ Factory front, center, and port-side rear tanks full.
+ Additional port-side weight: 750' Fat Sac in the rear storage compartment, 400'lb tube sack under passenger seats, 320' lead (40 lb bags I made by picking up free used tire lead from the local Firestone tire store and placed into some $5 tool bags I got at HomeDepot), and another 400' sac on the passenger seats.
+ Power Wedge at around 10:00 -10:30.
+ Driver (190’) and observer (200’).

I keep the 400' tube sac full under the seats at all times -- and take the 320' of lead and put it on the starboard side when we aren't surfing. That pretty well counterbalances the weight when I’m taking the kids wakeboarding or tubing. Then all I have to do when we surf is fill up the factory ballasts, switch the lead around, and use the Tsunami pump to fill up the 750 and 400 sac that’s on the seat.

Send me a PM if you have any other Q's.

Thanks!
Donnie

I got a 23 foot Enzo. I bought it this year. But it is a 2005. It had 50 hours on it and was the dealers demo. It was between that boat (the enzo) and a saltwater series mastercraft x45. I couldn't justify the extra money for the saltwater series boat. That red Avalanche looks sweet by the way.

Donnie - who is that tearing up that wake?

I'll testify to Donnie's setup - his wake is pretty nice. I have been behind the Inland Surfer Enzo and while it may be longer it is not any bigger.

I also have a 21v and of course it doesn't compare to either

I agree with you his setup is nice. It leaves a lot of room inside the boat for people.
Here is one more pick from Donnie's boat. You can see the wake it is about Mid thigh high on me and I am 6'.

Hey Bill (billthom). You're right, that's you behind the boat in the first picture! We had some great carving this summer! I rode behind the Inland Surfer Enzo too, and like Bill says, the wake is longer but not any bigger. And I can't keep a 23 or 24 ft boat in my slip, so the Malibu seems to work for us.

WOW... those are some nice boats for sale... i need to get on selling mine ASAP. the red one bigshow posted looks SWEET, and the 29k boat brett posted sparks my interest. should you be concerned about a boat with 350 hours on it? is that comparable to 150k miles or so??? (complete guess)
Old     (polarbill)      Join Date: Jun 2003       11-20-2007, 11:29 PM Reply
350 hours is nothing if the boat has been maintained correctly. I would say closer 35-50k miles. Up here in Washington 50 hours is about average a year. In Texas I would assume closer to 100 hours a year is average. Just like an automobile how long an engine and transmission are going to go trouble free is all dependent on how it was cared for. Usually a boat that is taken very good care of externally has been taken care of mechanically. Another thing to consider since you are in Texas is use in saltwater. Saltwater can wreak havoc on a boat if it isn't flushed regularly and prepared correctly for saltwater use. The only thing kind of crappy about the older centurions is that instead of using a Scupper(not sure about the term) on the bottom of the boat that you can fill while driving, they use transom through hull fittings. This means that you have to be sitting still or backing up to get the pumps primed. like someone else said the nice thing about the Centurions is that FlyHigh makes an Enzo bag that is 1500 pounds and fills the rear side locker and runs up underneath the seats. With little modification you can have 1500 pounds of automatic ballast. it might take a while but you have no bags on the floor of the boat. I think the enzo bag also has a couple fill/empty ports on it so if you don't want to wait you can buy a tsunami pump that you can throw over the side and fill it a lot quicker. I think this is what the inland surfer guys do, or at least use to. I don't know if you looked at a couple of the avalanches closely but i think a couple of them have the Switchblade, which acts similar to the power wedge and I have heard works pretty good for surfing.
