Western Oasis Wakeplace

Western Oasis WakeplaceIts official! There is a cable park on the west coast...and it’s OPEN! Western Oasis Wakeplace (WOW) is the new hoppin' Sesitec System 2.0 spot for water boarders to ride back and forth while hitting boxes, rails and jumps in between each turn-around.

WOW is a family owned and operated park located just outside of Carson City, Nevada in a town called Minden. Right now there are four 2.0 cables and the plan is to get a full cable system in by next year. But those aren’t the only plans around that place.

My visit started from my short drive over from Reno at the WWA Nationals. Before I got there all I could think about was how cool it's going to feel to ride a cable with mountains around me. Being born and raised into wakeboarding around mountains, I was really exited to ride cable with such an epic backdrop. When I pulled up, I was really impressed with how everything looked and was put together. The rails looked super fun, the area was nice and open and there was even a boat lake! Can you smell that? Smells like a perfect site for some serious boat and rail contests to me.

Ryan LippincottRight as I got out of my car I was welcomed by the mother of the Lippincott family, Lisa. Lisa was really nice to me right off the bat and pulled me right away on one of the 2.0’s that had an option of an A-frame or a flat box. The features were very well built and fun to ride. I can definitely tell that Mr. Panakos was running around there for a while cause I can spot a Panakos rail from anywhere.

For my next set I moved over to a different 2.0 where there was another flat box and a double-sided kicker that you can hit from both directions. The kicker had perfect tranny and the box was a good length. It was so nice to be able to hit a kicker going both directions and get picked up right away if you fall. It really makes you more motivated to try harder tricks knowing you don’t have to unstrap and walk a mile around a lake to stand in a line for another 10 minutes before you can try the trick again.

The Lippincott familyWhen I decided to call it quits, I got to hang out with the rest of the Lippincott family, father Doug and their son Ryan. They showed me all around their property and filled me in on all the ideas and future plans of the place. All I can say is that you guys are in for a treat! On my golf cart journey I got to take some pictures of the property and they even let me take their jet ski out to shoot some photos of their son Ryan shredding in his front yard.

WOW is going to be open from May to October depending on the weather since its just a few miles from Lake Tahoe. During that time it will be open seven days a week from 10am to 6pm. They are also offering a 2010 summer camp with guest pro coaches. You can find out more information on that or anything else about WOW on their website at WOWWakePlace.com.

I would definitely like to thank the Lippincott family for showing me a good time and helping the wake community and cable scene grow on the west coast.
