I am thinking about adding an eq to my current stereo, but do not know all of the benefits of having an eq. I know that it will allow me to fade between the tower and cabin speakers, but what other benefits are there? Will it allow me to hookup an ipod? Which eq would you guys recommend and can I install it myself? Thanks in advance.

the EQ adds line voltage needed to run multiple amps, fading between tower/boat, line input (IPOD), sub volume, sometimes a crossover, and of course tone control.

The PPI unit seems pretty nice, my sounstream is OK but I will probably replace it with a different unit next year... The ARC unit is nice too. Lots of options, pretty easy to install too.

I would not own a boat system without an EQ. You control everything with the EQ---volume, tower/cabin fade, sub volume, etc. Def. a must have! I use my ipod via an RCA cable that plugs right in the back of the EQ, works great and is long enough so that the passanger can change songs for me while I'm busy driving. You can install the EQ yoursenot hard to do.

Would adding an eq allow me to hook up an ipod, even if my current head-unit does not have that capability.

Nick, adding an EQ will allow you to hook up an Ipod assuming it has an Aux-input.

I'm going to get an EQ this year for my setup. What is the model of the PPI that is good? Does anyone have a suggestion on a good one?

Polk Momo's in Malibu.
Wetsounds Pro 80s, hopefully a 485 as well.
Amps, dual kicker 15" L7 subs.
IPod
