I have an 05 Supra 21v. I am looking for a good wakeboard prop. Something that can get the boat out of the whole when fully loaded. What is a good size/brand prop Thanks
Interesting place to come when you are looking for advice on a prop... for a very specific application...
Call me stupid.. but I usually just call Bill Weeks at ACME Propellers... and he will tell you exactly what you need.
Or you can come on here and get advice from anonymous people who may or may not use the prop they are recommending... and that may or may not be the only prop they have ever used.. so they would have no idea what to compare with...
Personally... I love my 911 prop from ACME. It works for me.. but probably not be the correct prop for you.
I have the same boat and I just put on an OJ 14.25 x 14. I must admit that to my surprise, it was definitely a change from the stock prop. Getting out of the hole and on plane was very noticeably different (for the better of course).
Well HeHateMe, I believe that MOST people on this forum are honest people. I was simply asking what others have used. And yes I am getting info from other sources too. So next time you post try not to be such a smart a$$, ok stupid (you said to call you that). Thank you Adam and Steve for your input. Also SupraSteve has that prop helped with your fuel usage?
there are a lot of variables you will need to know. i have had three xstars each with a different engine. i have always called or emailed eric johnson at OJ props and told him the year and model of my boat. the engine and transmission, and what we primarily use the boat for and what other uses the boat has. i have had 7-8 different OJ props for different applications. each one of them did exactly what eric said it would do. i would never buy a prop from a prop shop unless i had spoken with eric first and gotten him to tell me what he suggests. he will certainly sell you a prop but he will not be offended if you find one of his props cheaper at an OJ dealer. he will tell you to get it wherever you can find it cheapest. but whatever you do you owe it to yourself to find out from him what the correct prop for your application will be. with the correct prop i felt like my 05 XStrar with 350 hp was pulling like my 08 XStar with 450 hp with it's stock prop. also, when eric sold me the correct prop for my new XStar i could really tell the difference there too. good luck and let us know what you end up getting.
I have a response lx with the monsoon engine (still haven't given it to my dad yet, but the day he's completely out of remission that's his gift and ill be getting something new)...I called bill last year at acme and told him my boat, engine, what we used it for..how much weight I put in it and everything and he too suggested the 911. its an awesome prop! pulls like a s.o.b. out the hole and holds speed very strong and steady! I also didn't lose but like 2 mph off the top end. my advice is call acme...then call oj and see what props they both recommend. then make your decision. I also had my stock prop (13x12.5) repitched to the specs of the 911...haven't had to use it yet...but the work they've done for me in the past has been perfect.
We just put an OJ 475 (14.25x14.5) on our 03' SSV. Eric from OJ recommended that over the OJ 466 (14.25x14). The 475 won't increase your rpm's as much as the 466 when on speed but wil still pull like a mule. The 475 by the way is supposedly a new model. For curiosity sake, I rested the stock OJ prop (13.75x18.5) on top of the OJ 475 just to see the difference in blade surface area between the two; amazed at the difference. Dropping it in this morning for the initial ride and will pass the results. Good luck!
For those who care, the OJ 475 works real well. Our rpm is up only about 100-150 (3150) at 22.5mph. The power out of the hole and all the way up to speed is constant and plenty. Holds speed better through turns as well. The motor doesn't seem to labor as it did with the stock prop.
