I have an '06 with a 4" lift, and it gets a whopping 12-13.5 at best. When towing my boat it drops to around 9.5-11. Filled it up this morning with 31 gallons - $105.09 OUCH !!!

My stock '06 gets 15.5 average. It goes as high as 17 cruising on the freeway and as low as 13 towing. The 15.5 is averaged over 20k of freeway/city driving. Not the greatest, but definitely better than my old lifted Tahoe (which got around 12-13). Incidently it's still better than my Mom's stock Saab SUV (based on a trailblazer with the straight 6 cyl). I thought that was kinda sad.

Personally I HATE truxus tires. The have gotten good wear thus far but wander all over the place. After talking to a couple different people, that is just how they drive. I would not recommend them to anyone.

Andy, how do you like the Cummins with the manual transmission? I have heard they are not as fast as the auto but get ALOT better gas mileage.

the new 08's have all the emissions crap on them which is killing hp and fuel economy. All the 08 diesel are reporting bad fuel economy numbers especially the fords.

My Dad just bought one, 4wd, and he told me that the mileage per gallon is worse than any other F250 he has owned. He is getting between 11-12 doesnt matter if it's city or hwy. In fact he has taken it back and had them do a diagnostics check on it to make sure everything is OK. He is disappointed with the mileage, but happy with everything else.

The new trucks have a particulate filter, fills up about once a tank. To "clean it out", extra fuel is added after the power stroke to increase exhaust temps and "regen" the filter. Kills the mileage, but is nice to have no black smoke and a very clean exhaust. I have an 07 duramax (with 33" mudders) and am averaging around 14-15mpg with mixed driving. Towing on the highway get around 10-11. Seems to be improving as engine gets broken in but not expecting too much. Still better than a gasser with my heavy foot.

Shane is correct. This clean out cycle is the reason for the funny looking tailpipe. The duramaxs' do the same thing. During this "clean out cycle" the exhaust heats up dramatically to burn off the deposits. The exhaust tip helps to bring in cold air just before it exits the pipe. This prevents it from buring anyone walking by.

ITS REALLY NICE. although the nv5600 is not my recommendation, Id go with the newer ones the 03 and up 6 speed is the new mercedes transmision and the gear shift pattern is much easier to bang through and drives much nicer. plus they are still making parts for them. they stopped making parts for the nv5600 and parts are really hard to get. they dont even sell the transmission new through dodge any more. far as the motor they are easy to work on with lots of room inside. mods like injectors and exhaust you can pretty much do yourself if you are moderatly skilled at wrenching. the dmax injectors take 8hrs to change! ugg! i am selling my 00 and plan to get an 03 and up dodge cummins with the 6 next year or 2. o ya the manual engines are rated higher power wise but i dont know about them being faster, i would never ever ever get a dodge with an auto unless u planned on buko bucks to rebuild. 6k+ some of my sled pulling buddies have 10k+ in there trans! eew! O and any body with a diesel on here Id highly recommend looking into some sort of performance chip! it will increase your milage on average 2-3%

I wouldn't say that any of the 3 diesel engines are more powerful than the others. A few years ago that might have been the case, but check out this test http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/2007/shootout/hdshootout1.html very little difference in the fuel burners loaded or unloaded, but looks like the PSD was a little slower so saying,"they just don't compare to the power of the F250" is quite a stretch

Not a Ford, but I am getting 14 to 16 and change a tank in my '07 Dodge 1 ton CTD. Same when towing, which I assume is due to the towing being 100% freeway. Currently have almost 4K on the engine. After this short time owning a diesel, I wonder why I didn't pull the trigger on one years ago.

I towed my boat with my brother's 08 king ranch F250 two weeks ago, and was not overly impressed. Gas mileage avg right at 12 going 70mph. For what you have to pay for those, it's not even close to being worth it to me.

WTF, these threads that turn into this one is better... no this one is better... are getting OLD FAST. The superduty 7.3L are strong motors with pretty good trannys, the new 6.0L are good when they are good and terrible when you get one with issues. The duramax is a good motor and they are lucky enough to have the best tranny in the pack with the Allison 1000. The cummins is probably the strongest motor in the class but definitely the weakest tranny. They are all pretty much equal in stock power and with mods. Do some research and they are all better and worst than eachother depending on what you look at. Everone give it a damn rest with the ish talking please.

I have had an 02 Ford 7.3 Powerestroke, 03 Duramax, 04 Dodge Cummins with a 6 speed manual and now a 07 Mega Cab Dually with 5.9 Cummins. The best milage come from the 04 Dodge, with Edge EZ chip, 4" exhaust and AFE intake I was seeing 24-26m/gallon. The 07 has 14000kms and I am getting around 18 with the same mods.

Why don't you educate me then on the mods done to your truck then? Otherwise I couldn't care less about any stock diesel. It will get burned. so please enlighten me. If you're diesel is packing so much power it should be able to smoke the hummer also(if it's done properly). But you seem shy so no worries.

John, I have done both and find the computer reads a little high, usually 2-4 miles/gallon higher than on paper. I gained about 3 miles by installing the cold air intake. It depends on where you fill up as well, I burn purple(dyed) diesel which seems to get a little worse milage. WHen I was getting 24-26 that was driving at 110km/hour. When city driving I was still getting an average of 16-18.

you guys towing little ski boats their really is no savings in fuel economy to owning a diesel. where you benefit owning a diesel is trying to haul heavy loads. like horse trailers, toy haulers or big boats. I bought mine to tow my 30' toy hauler. I could not do that with a gas half ton. in fact i cooked the trans on my suburban on the first trip which was why i bought it. Really not much savings in a diesel 4x4 over a half ton in my opinion, I am just getting my truck back together after cooking 2 clutches and a transmission. when its all said and done ill be into it about 5grand. that just zeroed out my fuel savings for the year.

- running bio on fuel economy and power, I def noticed a loss in power when running b100 or b20. and my truck ran like doo doo. im waiting for better mixes to come out and see it out for a while. it runs good in the older mechanical injected dodges the the newer ones not so much.

Andy, as I stated above, I am getting almost double the gas mileage in my '07 Dodge 1 ton CTD as I was getting in my '02 Dodge half ton gasser. That doesn't even mention how much easier it is to tow. Never having to watch the temps going up and down the MANY passes here locally. Towing those passes with the air blasting when it is 100 degrees outside.... I could go on and on. There is not one benefit that I can think of towing with a half ton gasser over a HD diesel....even when talking about 5-6K worth of boat and gear.

Look at the banks dakota. it will smoke any of you guys! but he has prob 200k in it. ok now who wins? they are all good some are better then others. Any real diesel enthusiast knows this.

EJ, when u actually crunch the numbers. the cost of maintence its a wash. Unless you just have to be the fastest guy towing. i have put 4 years towing with my cummins turbo diesel and the amount of money ive spent on parts and maint it cost way more money in the long run. would i go back to towing with a gas truck? prob not. but I tow the 15k trailer every now and then as well.

O ya an EJ, If i remember corretly dodge started building the new cummins 600 motor ready to run bio from the fatory. so you should be able to run it no problem. Different blends of bio produce diff results. I have mostly noticed a loss in power, and a loss in fuel economy on everything i have run. have not run it in the last year because of it. The newer bio is supposedly better but im still skeptical in the local dealers. I have yet to get any from hippy town santa cruz though! haha.

Cost wise, I would not be surprised at all, if it was a wash in the end.... However, that being said, if everything is even cost wise, then the diesel wins easily because it is a MUCH better tow vehicle in every other aspect. There would be absolutely no reason to buy a gas vehicle to tow. In the end, I have had both....never tow more than 6Kish(though looking at both 5th wheel and camper options) and would NEVER buy gas again. Maybe I would feel different if I lived in the Midwest where towing is flat, but in the mountains......

You obviously dont know much about diesel engines if you make such bold statements? for all u know nu bu is stackin chips and running dual turbos. U know that the land speed record is held by a cummins? and the fastest quarter mile in a diesel is currently held by a cummins right? heres some info incase u didnt. 7 seconds. total hybrid motor hes even running a p7100 pump instead of a vp44. pump out of a 12v motor. cool thing is those are all off the shelf items. you can build that motor for not very much money.
