I just got a humingbird puck style (in hull) depth finder. It says to mount the puck in the back, but would it matter to put in near the prop? Where is the best place to put it?

Any experience would help. I don't want to permanently epoxy in the wrong place. Thanks - Chad

I would mount it a little forward of the prop, in a spot that doesn't have anything in front of it that would cause turbulence or aeration.

I know the instructions say not to use silicone, but I've mounted them with silicone in the 3 boats I've owned, and used the boats for years with it that way. Never had a problem reading - they all worked great.

Trace's advice is good. That's exactly how mine is mounted.

I put mine by the raw water intake on my boat. But my boat is a direct drive. I read on the instructions that it has to be in the water all of the time (even at high speeds when boat is on plane)I would be scared if it was too close to the prop you might get turbulent water and interfere with the signal. I just chose the spot I did because i knew it would always be in contact with water and should be relatively free from turbulent water (Because it is in front of shaft and other running gear). By the way mine works great. Never any problems. Only thing is if your lake has a lot of weeds in it it will freak you out sometimes because it reads the tops of the weeds as bottom when the weeds amy be 3 to 6 feet tall themselves.

I just glued it down in line with the water intake between that and the prop. Its a good foot and a half in front of the prop, but far enough back that it will always be underwater. I can't see it having any problems. I guess I will know tomorrow. Thanks for the advice guys. - Chad
