Not that it’s not a good idea to build your own box. If you want a square or simple box, I say do it yourself. It sounds like your going to do things a little more custom. Here’s my reasoning why I let the pro’s do it. #1 how many custom boxes have you built? #2 most of the time they have the tools/supplies readily available (table saw, jig saw, router, blades to cut different materials) it can be done with other tools just easier with the right ones. #3 The time it will take you to track down some of your materials could take a while. #4 The only real cost you have is the builders labor cost. If you build the box wrong, the sub sounds like doo-doo or could break, crack apart. If anything like that happens take back to builder. What your paying a qualified person to build a box your not only paying for his building skills but his expertise and knowledge of what his seen in his/her “x” number of years of installing/building. Just my opinion.
