I live in Montgomery, TX and I am new to the area! I heard a rumor that you can wakeboard on a power plant lake during the winter... because the water is around 70 degrees. it would make it nice because I can wakeboard year around!! the houston winter sucks!!!

its a private lake next to Lake Conroe (Entergy lake). Its gated and Entergy employees are only supposed to use it (and they are real strict about it). but yeah its real warm on the outlet side. The problem its on the wind blown side of the lake. Just get a wetsuit\drysuit dude. This has been an unseasonably cold winter so far. Last year rode all winter. But this next week looks pretty good.

You can!!! Lake Perky (i think its officially called Rogers lake?) is feed by Perky Power plant by Marshall Texas. That is too much of a drive for you, but thats the one I go too. But its pretty sweet when its warm. The Lake feeds the plant on one end and shoots it on the other side. Its a U shape and the place to ride is right at the bottom of the U. The closer you get to the plant the warmer it gets. But its overgrown and shallow there so we normally stay at the damn thats at the bottom of the U. The only problem is they shut the plant down for months at a time so sometimes its cold.

I think there are several power plant lakes in Texas. I used to ride on Lake Bryan when I was in college which was a power plant lake. It basically had two lakes connected by a channel and the outlet side was always a little warmer. I live in Conroe so that would be awesome to get on that one near Lake Conroe but it sounds like you have to have a hook up. Plus like Ben said everytime I have driven by that lake it looked blown out so probably not even worth it.

Man, you Texan's are spoiled! In Michigan we get 7 months of riding, about 5 of which are in water that is 60 degrees or less, lol.

We used to give lessons on lake Bastrop which is a power plant lake. I can't say I liked the extra temp in the middle of summer but it was great in the winter months. Bastrop is about 45 minutes out of Austin.

Hey if you're down to drive. Take a look at Gibbon's Creek just north of you. Its about an hour closer than Fayetteville, and a power plant lake. Gets pretty butter, just has some shallow spots. Run the dam side to a small cove perfect for tossing dubs. just make sure you have a depth finder, and DO NOT RUN CLOSE TO THE POWER PLANT. You will run ground (like me).
