I went to the mall and paid cheap to have some made at one of those little booths that do stickers for cars. Lasted great all summer.

Paint will last longer I bet. I've done it on my Southwind and it was the best thing I ever did to my boat.

I have a set of original stencils from correct craft. After I strip the letters will I still be able to see where to put the stencil on the side, from where the paint protected the jell coat?

Never mind about the "where do I find the paint", I found the Imron and decided $100 was two much and asked about alternatives and was suggested some comparable acrylic enamel for around $50. I'm going with marine blue metallic with a black metallic outline

The gelcoat under the paint should be distinguishable from the exposed gelcoat. Imron is a high quality somewhat flexable paint used on helicopters and aircraft. It can be found at an Automotive paint store. Ask a bodyshop where they get their paint. You'll never miss the extra $100-$150 dollars spent on a project of this size. If the paint doesn't stick, fades, or peels then the "good deal" on paint won't be such a bargain. My Dad always said, "The memory of a good deal won't outlast the quality of a job well done." If you want to save some money use a pinstripe tape instead of painting it. It will be much cheeper and easier to apply and is durable and repairable. A word of advice- Metallic paint fades faster, and is harder to apply with an even metallic look. It looks good be beware. Do some investigation before going this route.

To late, over lunch I got a quart of Dupont centari in mariner blue metallic and some gloss black Dupont centari $89 + tax,(Imron would have been about $150) for it and the hardener and thinner stuff. MW Correct Craft told me that most people just used rustolium enamel paint and I know that is what was used before. But this stuff should work a hell of a lot better than the rusto worked. I’m just going to dive in and see if I can swim. I’ll try to take some before and after pics and post them. Thanks for the advice.

Believe me I've considered it. The boat is a peach inside and out, but the wake isn't perfect and it takes too much time to sack it. By the time I get it all weighted just right my kids are going nuts and my wife hates climbing over all the stuff. I need a boat I can get in, flip a switch and have a great wake. It has been a great starter inboard and I've made some great memories with my family in her. If you need any more help on the paint job just let me know. I'd love to see some pictures.

I run with 500lbs in tractor weights, and 500lbs in side sacs, and am moving to lead bars to replace the tractor weights.

How long do you let the oven cleaner set?

It depends on which brand you get. The "Dow" oven cleaner worked the best. Leave it on for several minutes and srape it off with a razor scraper. Take it easy to not gouge the gelcoat. Then repeat the process until you get the majority off. Then wetsand the rest off. After you get it all off, make sure you get all the wax out of the cracks and blemishs. Get some chemical that will remove it. While you are at it, repair any gelcoat that needs fixing. Don't worry about messing anything up. Anything that gets messed up can be fixed.
