impeller

I am trying to change the impeller on my 05 Supra. Is there an easy way to get the old one out, and how can a go about getting the old one out and new one in

Pliers and some elbow grease will get it out. I would say invest the money in a puller. You can get one and an impellar off skidim.com. All I know is the right tool always makes any job ten times easier. We use binding lube to grease up the new impellar and pop it in there. Anything water soluble is usually ok.

Flathead screwdriver

Spray a little WD40 in the housing, bump the engine over to circulate the WD40, then use 2 paint can openers to hook the back of the impeller and pull it out.

Dish soap works great to get the old impeller out. just rub some on the fins and it will start to move out much faster. They actually make an impeller pulling tool but the paint can openers or flat heads work just fine.

Okay this is what I was told by my Marine machanic where I bought my boat.

You pull the kill switch at the driver cockpit. (You know the red bungy cord thing that you never attach to yourself that is under your throttle.)

Then you have someone ready with the needle nose pliers and have hold of the Impeller. Then have someone turn the key as if you are turning the engine on and because of the kill switch is pulled the engine does a slight turn over causing the impeller to move a bit and it comes out as you pull with the pliers.

I haven't tried this, but make sure you have that kill switch pulled or those pliers and you are going for a ride.

Like I said I have not tried this, but I trust my mechanic.

On my 02 Supra V-Drive it was easier to remove the whole water pump assembly, then I had easy access to remove the impeller with a set of pliers

Thanks for the help. I ended up taking the whole housing out. That ended up not being too bad.
