2001
Pros: Fantastic wake, handles like a dream, great resale, takes very little ballast to make a great wake, fairly available, it's a Nautique.
Cons: Very little room (closed bow), stringer rot issues, costs more than other makes due to demand.
Sunsport
Pros: Roomy (open bow), good wake, usually costs less than a 2001.
Cons: Stringer rot issues, less availability (not as many made as the 2001), takes a little more to weight it, a lot of gay colors for some reason.
This is just the info I have found on reading posts. I have no experience with the Sunsports. I do have lots of experience with the 2001s and the MC PS 190s. From what I have seen (and this may just be in my area), it is easier to find a nice 2001 that has been kept in great shape. I think this may be due to the fact that they initially were more expensive than the Supras. I have found a few Supras in good shape, but most that I have come across have been in poor to fair shape. All the Supra owners that I have talked to were happy with the boat (unless they had to redo the stingers!). I hear the wake is a lot like the old DD Launch. The wake is supposedely more rampy than the 2001s. Also, for some reason, Supra had lot of really fruity colors in those years. As a matter of fact, I don't think I have ever seen one that was great. If you are colorblind and think blue, pink, mauve, orange, teal, and yellow go great together than you'll love Supras!
I have seen some 2001s in bad shape (mine was one of them), but most are in fair to good. I have seen several 2001s in excellent to damn near mint condition, too.
Anyway, that's just my lowdown. Take it for what it's worth.
