Well DRA is in talks with one of our sponsors about raffling off a boat at the end of the year. The preliminary thought is to have 500 tickets max available with a minimum of 375 that would need to be sold to make the raffle work. If we did not make the 375 money would be refunded to the ticket holders. we are thinking $100.00 a ticket. A small price to pay to have a 1 and 500 chance at winning a boat. And we have not determined the model of boat as of yet but is will be from the Skiers Choice line. So before I get this to far in the making I am looking to see what the response is.

I live in Illinois...can I still buy a ticket and if so and I happen to win the boat how will I get it? Maybe these are stupid questions..... But I would buy at least one if I can!

Yes you can buy a ticket, shipping would be an extra cost or you could come and pick it up. The tickets will be limited to 500 and the minimum amount to be sold will be worked out for sure by this Monday. The rest of the Rules are in process of being developed and if all goes well we will kick off the raffle at the next DRA stop and the raffle will be open to all. Once the tickets are gone the tickets are gone. More info to follow but suggestion and question are welcomed. (Message edited by sanger215guy on May 11, 2007)

I'd buy a ticket or two. At $100 per ticket, you would have a minimum of $37,500 and a maximum of $50,000 collected. I am assuming that this will cover the cost of the boat, or is the money going to be donated to a worthy cause?

I will continue to update and we will officaly relese the contest in a few diffrent formats. The cost of the ticket should be tax deductible as we will be giving a portion of the proceeds to the local Boys and Girls club in support of youth activities.

I dont think it can be tax deductible because you're getting (or potentially at least i guess) something in return. Same thing as when you buy girl scout cookies they are not tax deductible even though some of the money is going to help them. If you gave them the cost of a box but didnt actually get a box, then that'd be tax deductible.

I believe Gerald is right. I quickly talked to Gary after the issue was brought up. As for now, if you are looking for a tax deduction, you will need to contact your own accountant or tax professional regarding federal and state taxes.

In Motorhome Mag. They have a similar thing going on. For $100 ticket you have a chance to win a new RV and some of the proceeds go to Habitat for Humanit. That is tax deductable. (Message edited by mo_scrilla on May 11, 2007)

It would be deductible if going to a charitable organization. If you win the boat, that's taxable income at FMV of boat. Regardless of whether or not you take the deduction. I am also curious where the "donation" is going.

Guys, hold tight. I know this post is vague about the boat, but the details will be released as soon as our sponsor solidifies the deal. Why would you doubt it is a wakeboard boat? This is WakeWorld is it not? The boat will be a V-drive from one of the Skiers Choice product line if the plans come together.

Darren, I can't give you a definate answer as of yet, but I don't see why not. Obviously, you would be responsible for taking possession in the US and paying all applicable taxes in the US and your country of domicle, not to mention the cost of shipping. If everything goes as planned, we can get back to you on this.

This is the type of response I was hoping for prior to kicking off the raffle. I did not want to waste any peoples time if the conditions of the raffle were to extreme. We are in the process of finalizing the terms of the raffle and will officially kick it off next week. As for the Boat in question, of course it is a wakeboard boat and the price of the boat may or may not exceed the total of the raffle proceeds. We are going to put a quality product up for someone to win and it will be "WELL OUTFITTED". We have talked to some other sponsors and everyone will be very pleased with what a $100 ticket could win. The total # of tickets available and the rest of the terms and conditions are being put together and will come in the official announcement next week (later next week).

Not to hijack this post but I have been kicking this around as well. Here's what I'm curious about. Would everyone rather pay a larger amount per ticket, say $100 or more and have less overall entries, or would they rather have a smaller ticket price with more entries in the raffle? Also, what does everyone think about capping the total tickets available at a certain amount, say 1000 or less, depending on the actual boat/cost. (First come first serve and a greater chance of winning.) I would also think that whomever does the raffle needs to have some verification somehow that it isn't fixed. I think the DRA's peeps are on to something super cool here. What a great way for someone to get into the sport (or upgrade)!!

Please go to the events page to see the updated info on our raffle. Don't miss this one. Well we have sealed the deal and this weekend we will kick off the ability to purchase raffle tickets for a 2007 Moomba LSV (well outfitted) with a complete CWB board package. We will get pictures available soon and have the ability to get raffle entry forms from our site next week. In the mean time send a email on the contact link at www.deltariders.com to get raffle entry sent to you if you’re not going to make it to the Saturday event at Union Point. Your entry will be sent to you via email or snail mail Monday the 21st of May. Complete details will be available at the event on Saturday and on the site shortly. Here is the basic way it will work: DRA will offer only 600 raffle tickets on a first come first serve basis. There will need to be a minimum of 400 tickets sold for the raffle to be validated. In the event 400 tickets are not sold all funds will be returned to the contestants within 15 days of the termination of the raffle. There is no limit to the number of tickets you can purchase. Each ticket will be $100 a piece. Tickets will be numbered by the order received. The Boat will be given away at the last event of the season (September 22, 2007) and you will not have to be present to win but you will need to present your winning ticket for verification prior to receiving the prize. The raffle tickets will be available from May 19th to September 19th 2007. You can enter the raffle via mail but will not receive a ticket until funds are received in full. Out of state entries are allowed and all applicable taxes will apply. The winner will be responsible for taxes and shipping fees if they apply. DRA owners, immediate family, and sponsors of the raffle are not eligible for the raffle. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the local Boys and Girls club in the name of the participating sponsors to benefit youth activities

I hate to be a killjoy, but I don't want DRA or any individuals to get into any trouble or be left holding the bag. I was hoping somebody else would find this, so I didn't have to be the messenger, but... This is from the California Attorney General website at http://ag.ca.gov/charities/raffles.php. In California, charities and certain other private nonprofit organizations may conduct raffles to raise funds for beneficial or charitable purposes in the state. This exception to the general constitutional prohibition against lotteries requires that at least 90 percent of the gross receipts from these raffles go directly to beneficial or charitable purposes in California. Unless specifically exempted, a nonprofit organization must register with the Attorney General's Registry of Charitable Trusts prior to conducting the raffle and file financial disclosure reports on each raffle event. Forms for registering and reporting activities are provided on this web page. What organizations qualify and how the raffles must be conducted are governed by Penal Code section 320.5, which was added by Senate Bill 639 (McPherson, Chapter 778, Stats. of 2000). For details, view the Frequently Asked Questions, Statutes and Regulations. A review of charitable lottery activity in California is available in the publication Nonprofit Raffle Program Report to the Legislature.

Someone help me out here. I must not understand what is going on. From what I can see, they are only selling 600 dollars worth of tickets but their giving away a $40,000 boat. Does that seem crazy to anyone else? If their really going to do this why not buy all 600 tickets yourself and get a brand new $40,000 boat for 600 bucks.
