I'm planning on building my first rail this weekend and I was curious what type of cover material is used on the top...I was going to use 2 PVCs but I think I've decided to go a different route...what is usually used for sliders, I'm guessing some type of vinyl but I dunno? Help please

i was there the other day and for like a 24 ft piece it was about 26 dollars...u will need two pieces to make it 8-10 inches wide... and all the other stuff...4x4 for post and so on...that was at lowes...u may want to look at home depot ..home depot is usually cheaper...

Luker, The product is called Trex- decking material. Lowes is a great place to buy it. I have found that the best thing to use is the 1x12 Facia board. It comes in 12' sections. I am not sure on the price, but it is expensive. It is very flexible due to it being 1". You can use pressure treated 4x4 posts and 2x4's for your base. Good Luck

Paul, by fascia board, you mean the plastic boards, such as Azek? If not, my bad. If so, you can get those in longer lengths than 12', 20' is common. May even be cheaper then trex at that width (1 piece vs 2 wide) Built a small one for wakeskate, slid fast, try sanding the edges to give them a bevel.

You should use some sort of composite decking (trex or similar). Unlike Mario says, it's not sold in 24' lengths for retail. It comes in 16' lengths and it is $29. http://homedepot.bighammersoftware.com/ProductInfo.aspx?cid=817844&pid=11580628-8a88-4e47-8236-5f1af464a572 Paul-are you talking about composite facia board or just wood? Wood would tear your board up quick and you would get nasty splinters. Bad idea IMO.

No, Trex makes the facia board in 12" widths great for sliding. This way you dont have to place 2 6" boards side by side. And if you wanted to make some type of rainbow slider it bends very easily

There is a composite board out there that is 11-1\2" wide and it is made by choice deck. Lowe's keeps in stock. It is about 3\8" think and sold in 12' lengths. Great product for sliders.

quick question, me, nor none of my friends have hit a lisder, but i was talking to one of my friends and he said he'd be interested in hitting it would a flatbar be best for a bunch of noobs at sliders, will it get boring to fast? what would be the shortest distance that will still be fun, not to hard to transport and worth it i was thinking 10-12ft but i'm not sure if thats stupid

20' minimum otherwise you are on and off to quick. sorry mario, I reread my post and I didn't mean to call you on it like that, I just was surprised by the price per foot that I was coming up with in my head based on your figures. My sliders always run about $100 in trex. 2 wide at 32' long.

Never got around to it this weekend...the water and weather were so nice down here, plus I got a new set of closed toe Murrays...I couldn't help but ride all weekend. I'll post pics and prices when I get around to it.

id say 30ft minimum personally, we have a 30 foot slider in our lake and its to short sometimes, but about 2 feet off the water 30 foot flatbar and if you wakeskate then maybe 1 foot of the water. and it never gets boring, theres always a new trick to learn...

don't make it 2 wide, just makes rail ridin on wakeboards look whack unless you actually make a box. the widest "rail" i would make would be 1 wide but even at that i find it still makes the rail riding look weak.
