So I'm looking at getting a new prop and both OJ (XMP Edge) and Acme have made recommendations and they're almost identical. OJ XMP Edge 14.5" x 14 with 0.110 cup Acme 14.5" x 14.25 with 0.105 cup The only difference is price. Does it matter which one I go with?

I just put the OJ on my 2001 X-Star. INSANE holeshot. I run about 25-2700lbs ballast plus people and fuel and have no problem with the holeshot with my 310hp. Be prepared to loose alot of top end though. I am running about 800rpms higher at the same speeds now. Oh well, at least i can get out of the hole!

The Acme's are fantastic props I have not tried a OJ since they followed acme's lead with CNC props.

Dont know about the Edge but I know that an Acme cnc prop has more surface area then a normal 4 blade oj witch gave better hole shots and a smoother and easier ride to maintain. My vote is an Acme you wont be disappoeinted. Later and good luck.

I have emailed both, and the guys at ACME has been nothing but great to deal with, they asked a lot about my application. OJ just responded.

The XMP EDGE is the first propeller developed for the wakeboard specific boat. The EDGE was developed with input from the top factory riders with MASTERCRAFT, MALIBU and SKIERS CHOICE. The EDGE has allowed for more ballast to be added to these boats than ever before. The EDGE was introduced long before Acme's version of our propeller. As always we offer our a money back guarantee with all of our product line. Todd; If you would like to reduce your RPM I'd be happy to exchange your propeller for our 14.25 X 14.5. Just give me a call if you are interested. Brian; Both our XMP 3-blade and the Acme 3-blade have similar overall blade area which is very close to our Force 4-blade. The 3-blades have larger diameter and a bit less pitch which provides better acceleration than a comparable 4-blade. I will say that neither 3-blade is smoother than the 4-blade. If you were to compare like sized propellers from each of us you would see similar performance from them both. Both companies, OJ PROPS and Acme build quality CNC machined propellers. Yes, Acme did bring to market the machined propeller first after several years of trying. We spent 2 years developing our machining process before we would introduce our XMP line. The machined propeller was a natural progression in the market. Larger propellers had been machined prior to that introduction. We are proud to be in the middle of our 70th year of building quality propellers. Nearly 30 of those years have been in the towboat specific market. We are also proud of our products, customer service and dedication to our specific market. Without that and our loyal and satisfied customers we would not be in our 70th year. If anyone has any questions regarding our products please give me a call. Eric Johnson OJPROPS.COM 800-359-9730

Is there an automatic relationship between better holeshot always coming at the cost of higher rpms, or are there instances where a better "bite" will actually result in more push so as to lower rpms at 23 mph:ish? We run about 2300 lbs of ballast and the hole shot on the X2/X1 with the 310 and stock prop (which is. OJ I think) is allrigt, but could be better. I am really only interested in reprooping if rpms don't go up significantly as we are already running near 3000. Edit: Oh, and could care less about top speed. 23-24 is where it's at... David, How much difference in price is there? FB, It is a little like comparing apples to oranges, but I have an acme 537 (I think it is 13.5 X 16), and an older (non-CNC) OJ for my spare that is 14 X 18. Unfortunately, I seem to be getting a lot of experience with my spare. The Acme has better hole shot and I only lose about 1-2 MPH max with the acme. The hole shot is enough superior that I am pretty eager to get the Acme back on when I have dinged and it is at the shop getting fixed.

Until now, an ACME prop works best for our application ('06 XSTAR 3000+lbs ballast). Our dealer is great in letting us test the props and we switched back and forth between an OJ and ACME with the same specs and ACME is better for us.

I bought and use the OJ XMP EDGE, 14.25x14.5, .120 cup and its awesome. Some top end loss, negligable rpm gain at wakeboard speeds. Used to i could do some surface 3s while the boat was pulling me up - now i just hang out its up so quick. HIGHLY recommended.

fb, Better hole shot is usually achieved with less pitch which will increase RPM. I built the EDGE with less pitch AND larger diameter to better hold the RPM. The larger diameter helps with the low end "bite". We are replacing the stock props on your boat with the XMP EDGE with very good success. Give one a try, if it does not work for you, I will refund your purchase price. Eric OJPROPS.COM 800-359-9730

Eric, Will I loose much holeshot by going up to the 14.5? I dont mind the rpms much as I have another prop that i use for cruising. I like the ability to load up as much weight without the loss of holeshot.

Todd; I don't think you would lose much on the low end with the 14.5 considering your RPM's are up as high as they are. Eubanks; We are running the 14.25 X 14 LC 1 1/8" XMP EDGE 4-blade with .110 cup, part #468

Eric, Any ballpark on lost RPMs at 23 mph for my situation? X2/X1/205v with 310hp, 2,300 lbs ballast. Stock prop equals about 2,800 rpms at 23mph. Thx.

This is a great topic and one that should be revisited from time to time. Eric- I am running about 2200lbs of ballast in a Moomba XLV, heavy boat, at hight elevation, 5,280ft. What prop do you think is best for me for hole shot? I am experiencing a problem planing out. It takes a while. I am running the MPI 340hp. At 23 MPH I think I run about 3000-3100 rpms.

fb; I would think your RPM range would be from your current 2800 up to 3000. Just a guess. Kraig; What size is your current propeller?

The stock OJ prop that came with my boat was good I thought, until I bought an Acme prop. The dimensions are the same but the performance is different. The Acme prop is much smoother and the boat planes out much quicker.

Tom - was your stock prop machined? If not, that's an unfair comparison and off topic for this subject.

Eric, I have a supreme v220 with merc 350mag I am running 2400lbs of ballast and 5 to 6 people in the boat on average. Currently running a 13x11.5 3 blade. I know this is not the right prop for the boat and load that I run. We have also had many issues with vibration and related damage to the drive train. with that in mind it has been recommended that this boat should be running a 4 blade prop not a three. This fall I will be replacing prop shaft coupling and strut to solve our vibration problem and will also adding a new prop as well. What prop would you recommend for my application.

You need a 13X10.5 CNC machined prop. Both OJ and Acme have them. I sell both. Your V-Drive typically does better with the 4-blade, but the difference is hard to detect.

Hey Eric, I have a 13X13.25 Cutter Stainless on my Tige 21 - What would you recommend for a better holeshot moving from this? Right now I get a decent holeshot unless I am really weighted down and I have PLENTY of RPM's to spare at WOT. I think WOT it does 45+ at 4800 rpms. Thanks!

Just a recommendation for you guys - Eric is very accessible at his office if you have prop-related questions. I got him on the phone no problem and he helped me. Just call 800-359-9730.

Tom; I would agree with Karl on the 13 X 10.5 for your application. The 3-blades are performing better on the 1:1 transmission. If you are replacing all your running gear you might think about adding the XPC dripless shaft seal kit to the list. Give me a call if you have any other questions. Will; I would suggest our 13 X 11.5 LC for better low end. Kraig; The XMP EDGE 14.25 X 14 LC 1 1/8" 4-blade would be a good replacement. David is right guys, just give me a call with any questions you may have. Eric ojprops.com 800-359-9730

Eric- I already bought a wakeboard prop, the one I described earlier, how much is your prop going to cost me?
