I checked your profile, and noticed that you are in Ca. You do know that your setup is not allowed in your city and most of the state. We used to have a ford f250 with a 460 in it; we could only use the 5-wheel and boat combo in Texas.

I have seen a number of people do the double trailer in California. I looked up the law and my interpretation of it was that it was not allowed, but the wording was a bit vauge. I am pretty sure that you need the commercial truck drivers license in order to make it even questionably legal. The people I have talked to who were doing this reported that they have never been hassled. I bet it you had an accident, however, things could change really fast! I bet pulling into gas stations with that rig is tricky!

Yes we are in Ca. I have a class A with doubles endorsement. This allows me to tow up to 75' as long as the middle 5er is no longer than 28'6". The GCWR for the 3500 w/ the Duramax is 22,600 lbs. Loaded with fuel and gear Im at 21,414 lbs. truck, trailer, boat.

It actually is legal. I actually thought you could be up to 80'. But maybe it is 75' as you said. Although legal it is a pain to get gas etc.

Mike, I like it. Have you camped at Lone Rock Camp at Powell? Nothing like your own water front estate.

Wow guys, I've thought about doing the same thing, 5th wheel with boat, but the length limit in TX is 65 feet, which would limit me to a very short 5th wheel, like 28 feet. After looking for short 5th wheels and seeing the very small selection, I pretty much gave up. Can you go over that length if you get a commercial license or something?

The license is fairly simple. 1) Study the Commercial driving hand book, you can get it at any DMV. You need to study the whole book even air brakes. 2) Take the base commercial test. If you have not taken the regular class C test with in 3 years you will be required to take that as well. 3) Take the test for Doubles and tripples. 4) Get a phyical. You also need to get one every 2 years. 5) Take the driving test with only your 5er and tow vehical. Your license will be limited to a weight listing of what you bring to the test. Now you off to your favorite water front camp site.
