Trailer is about 3 yrs old and kept out of the weather. The paint around the step plate on the fenders is blistering. anyone else have this problem? I was thinking about just removing the plates, sanding and repainting. Then putting some Gator-grip on the fender. Anyone have any other suggestions? thanx
As always, you have galvanic corrosion between the aluminum tread plate and the steel fender. No way to prvent it other than isolate the aluminum from the steel. Steel will be sacrificial to the aluminum. It's really funny to see trailer manufacturers do this, in spite of very old metallurical knowledge on the subject. It looks "WOW" when it's on the showroom floor, doesn't it.
Yes, your correct-it looked great for the first few years, then the corrosion started. If that will keep happening, then I'll just go with my original idea of gator grip. Thanks for the info Doc....
