I was on this cruise ship once. The wake was enormous! I also remember seeing the wake on a tug boat chugging down the columbia river outside of Portland. It had a huge wake as well!!

I'd say the Supra Launch 24 SSV. It comes standard with 1800 lbs of ballast. HUGE wake.

1998 Grand Princess. Just a couple thousand tons. of ballast, 3700 people, 22 knots... Weight = 109,000 tons.

The only problem with the Grand Princess is holding the speed. Even with Perfect Pass I have a hard time. The wake on mine always seems to wash over. But mine is a 1997 so that might be the problem.

I think the hull was the same actually on the 1997 model, you just might have forgotton to put your hydrogate into "wakeboard" mode from "cruise" mode.

Brad, there is NO WAY a 109,000 ton boat has a problem with holding speed!

Hey Toe side! Lets just say the ship was much heavier at the end of the trip then the begining. Oh wait, maybe that was me? I'm hoping to make it out again this year. I haven't booked anything yet, it's getting to be that time of the year though isn't it. Have you and Kim ever done a houseboat trip? I know it's in your backyard, but I was thinking about putting something together. Are you around all summer? I'm thinking the surf wake on that thing would be pretty good!

MB B52 tripple up- wake is huge and the two speed is sweet for getting it on plain with the 2200 lb. is comes with stock. Handeling on the other hand, lacks in a huge way.

Might be a nice wake but getting off the swim platform is a bitch.

Cruise liner will run yah just less than what an X-80 will cost. Remember it's not about the biggest wake, a 28 foot Rinker would throw a huge wake, it's about shape, density, and cleanest wake. That's why "most" would say the SAN has the best wake.

In 1985 I skied behind one of the Blue & Gold catamarans in San Francisco Bay between the Bay and Golden Gate Bridge. All of the local ski clubs got together and tried to break the Australian record for number of skiers behind one boat. We had 120 on the dock, about 50 of us made the start after being dragged for about a five minutes. It seemed the boat only had enough power to pull up 50 skiers. It twin turbocharged 2000hp diesels, unfortunately it was overpropped and couldn't turn enough RPMs for the turbos to kick in. The wake was about 3' high and about 100' wide with at least three sets of wakes on each side. We were on 200' ropes using jump skis. The whole mess was sponsored by Budweiser. Here is a pix of one but I think this is one of the mono hull boats.
