inboards- direct drives and v-drives both have their props under the boat, good system. D drives (direct drives) have an engine in the middle of the boat and the driveshaft goes straight from the engine to the water. Very efficient. V-drives have their engine towards the stern of the boat but its flipped around backwards so the drive shaft faces forward, towards the bow. Then the drive shaft is relayed backwards to the rear and through the hull of the boat. Both are definately better than a bayliner which is an outboard or an i/o,they are very ineffiecient. Try to find a 80's mastercraft or ski nautique. It will be worth it. (Message edited by 33drew on June 20, 2004)
