While you were flipping threw “Wake Boat Porn” looking at 200k wake boats that you don’t have & don’t need. I was out enjoying The lake on my BEAT DOWN totally useless, irelvelant, POS boat I FEEL HORRABLE!

It does make me wonder sometimes if I will ever get to upgrade to something newer. My 09 VE is all set up and puts out a hell of a wave that can compete with a lot of newer boats but when older boats are now going for more than I paid for mine and the newer ones are double that what am I really getting? A newer boat with less hours and a similar wake/wave? It makes my "paid for" boat seem very attractive. The only thing I'd really like is the added length of a 23 or 24'.

I have 4 people tell me how, They went to the boat show and they saw these Monster Wave machines & they were blown away at the $220k sticker price of the top boat. Everyone was quick to say “I hope I never see one on our lake” huge wake surfing wakes are being blamed for everything these days from Climate change to shore errosion. I have even been herring rumblings about people mounting some sort of ban on Wake Surf boats on our lake. It’s funny how some water sport is always the new low man on the pole. First it was Ski’s pissed at Wake Boarders, then it was ski’s and boarders pissed at Jet Skis and now we all hate Tubers. Now it’s like the whole industry hates Wakesurfers.

I think the Industry loves Wakesurfers. It has allowed them to triple the price of their boats because everybody can do it. I think the non Wakesurfers hate them because of the big wave ruins their butter. Most of that is because of inconsiderate surfers that don't respect other boaters or docks. It's a small group, but as usual they ruin it for the rest of us.

Doubt that will change anytime soon.

It sucks that I'll never be able to buy some of the newer boats, but at the same time I made 10k when I sold my Malibu & I'll probably break even if not make a couple grand when I sell my current boat. 5 years of fun to sell for what I paid for it ain't a bad deal at all.

^ That's the truth. With most of these used boats today you could almost rack as many hours as you want and the value won't really change much. I bought my 2009 boat 6 years ago and locally I could probably sell it for more than I paid or around the same price. I'd only be out the upgrades I've added.

You'd probably collect on most of the upgrades too. I listed all the upgrades on my boat & held firm on price, the right buyer that could do the math himself saw it was a great deal to not have to do a darn thing but put it on the water.

yep. The higher those new boats sell for, the more attractive my 2006 looks. I've been on a new MXZ, I just don't need 16 different waves out of boat. That's the only difference.....

I demoed the MXZ, VLX, Axis A22, T23. I preferred the T23 over all of them for wave. As for 16 different waves, rather pointless on the MXZ when only 2 of the settings are worth a ****.

Grant you must remember back in the day when you bought your Nautique it was probably the top dog boat. The boat to have! It was more than the other brands for sure. I know I wanted a Nautique 210 and ended up getting a Malibu VLX. Well the prices are crazy I won't lie, but everything is getting out of hand. I buy groceries and can't believe the bill. I put 100.00 of diesel in the truck and it still could of put more in it.
That same 2006 Malibu VLX that I paid 56K for new, sold for 38K with 500 plus hours. 18K worth of use over 12 years. Not bad.
Your Nautique is beautiful. I saw you cruising the lake on Sunday. It is in great shape to say the least. You probably could turn around and sell it for all the money if you wanted to with all those added things you have done to that boat.
Do you need the top boat that is 200K? No, but you didn't need the top boat back then either. I guess that is my point. We all fall into the trap for what we like or want. Boats, Cars, Homes on a lake, over the top Golf Carts and so on. Why work your ass off and not buy what want.

Grant are you articles on gel coat repair still floating around somewhere? Got a few dings in mine (before I got it) and want to color match gel and get them fixed up. I think we lost all the kickass articles when the forum upgraded software a few (10?) years ago. I know the ballast install articles are gone... point in the right direction if you can.

I agree with denverd1, got a lot of help from reading Grant's past articles. Hopefully, they can be restored!

Does anyone "need" one? No. Does anyone "need" a Ferrari either? No. That said, new boat prices are INSANE, and you could buy a Ferrari. We were having this discussion at the boat dealership event awhile ago. The depreciation is gigantic too from new to 100 hours. You could buy a really awesome boat for the amount of depreciation most boats take the first year or two.

This was the first time in 11 years we didn’t go to a boat show. There was just no point. We have a 2013 X30 with gen2. An awesome boat. To upgrade to anything new that is better (G, Xstar), would probably cost us around $100k cad! There is NO way in the world that the upgrade is worth $100k.
In fact I don’t know if we will ever upgrade. Each year that gap increases and my desire to spend that much money decreases lol.
I kind of think of the boat shows like the strippers. It might be fun to go look, but if you want to take anything home, it’s going to empty your wallet!

Axis man! I'm telling you. The A24 wake is legit. The cost is still up there but its the most wake for the money. And no the interior isn't like a G, Star, or whatever. But i will tell you this, people come ride mine and they never leave disappointed.
