not the best weather but was still great to get out and check out the new Recon Edition. Met some good people and got to chat briefly with Adam as well as watch Keith ride from a distance. I believe there were some guys from Alliance wake there getting some pics. Looking forward to seeing those shots!

yeah simple, looks like that would be a cold one too!
Thats the way it loves to be weighted though, nice and heavy in the bow, IMO most axis owners have too little bow weight... I get happy just looking at that.

but nothing is more frightening then riding in the bow of SLAMMED gen 2 star with 8 people and 5000lbs of ballast in new england in early may...
i can see the axis liking front weight, especially if youre using the wedge
but anyways this edition is cool but i doubt i would drop the coin...

Oh yeah, I was about to say that the picture reminds me of how an Xstar looks when properly weighted....

Man, that is awesome to see Lyman on the water! I thought with him joining the Army, we wouldn't see him again for years on the water. Very nice boats too. I sure wish Axis would offer a stainless steel rub rail, that's one thing that always looks cheap to me. Very very minor of course, and they look sick loaded down.

Why do the manuacturers cut the nose so low? It seems to be a trend in wake boats. Compare the freeboard from the rear to the nose, why don't they keep the freeboard the same?

One reason is bow rise Daniel... Depending on the hull design, boats plow through the water and don't lift straight up - a ski boat is designed to run flat, wake boats drag. That boat is actually setting pretty level, slammed, but level.
I would be interested to hear if the nose actually dipped minus just crossing some chop/rollers. A good driver can avoid a nose dip.

The bow isn't that low on the Axis. That boat is weighted down.
Here's a shot of one with minimal ballast.

I was going to say. The Axis front isn't low typically. There's 4 people up front so that could be anywhere from 600-800lbs depending on the weight of the people.

I'm not picking on the axis just saying in general. But look at the height difference above the rub rail in the front and back. It's got to be at least a foot.

Yeah daniel, you are right about a lot of wake boats with low bows, I noticed that too. When sitting in the drivers seat of the A22 with no ballast, you can really see well over the bow, the top deck drops down just in front of the windshield. the bow rise is not very much either (compared to most) and so it is very nice to be able to see when getting on plane and see very well once up to speed.

here is my A22 with no ballast. You can see that the rubrail is higher out of the water than the rear, but the top of the bow is still 6" or so lower than the sun pad on the rear.

There is also a substantial amount of hull under the bow, I think the forks give it the look like it slopes down and the bow stops short. There is a lot down there to keep it afloat. Anyone comment, did the nose dip on that Recon?

Here's about 1800lbs total in the bow (plus much more in the rear and floor). You have to drive it, but it's not hard to keep water from coming over.

1800 in the bow? How much do you run in the stern?

I do not load my boat like this all the time. This was a one time occasion just to see how big we could make the wake.
There was about 1800 up there, that's an 1100# sac you see up there and there was a 400# in the hallway plus the front ballast, but some was emptied there.
Then we had the rear plug 'n play with 750s full in the lockers(1900 in each locker) and another odd size sac on the floor, it was around 500lbs.
Sorry, I think this thread is getting off topic now so I apologize for putting these pics up now.

The added top deck makes you feel like you are "in the boat" instead of "on the boat". Also, it's not "at least a foot"... not even close, you can measure my Axis. Definitely a more secure feeling inside the boat vs something like an Epic where seat backs are shallow (not picking on Epic...just an example of shallow seat backs). As Johnny mentioned, the Axis has minimal bow rise compared to a lot of other boats out there.

3800 in the back of the boat? Or 1900 total in the back?

1900 total. 200# hard tank plus the 750# plug 'n play sac in each locker.
Then another ~500 sac on the floor.

I believe he is stationed at Fort Bragg and working on a few mixed Army/Wakeboard related projects while in the service. I could be wrong, but that's what I've gathered from the things I've heard.
