I would suspect this has been done for a reason... i.e: boat was trashed and engine/running gear destroyed. thus this was a way to bring it back to life on a budget.
I doubt it was bought by a serious wakeboarder... more likely because it was cheap and an insurance write off.

Some ideas are better left on paper.

cant imagine that reenforceing the transom, buying a volvo stern drive and all the assioated pain in the azz with converting to i/o is in any way cheaper than having the original runing gear re done?

Depends if you already had a volvo drive in a donor boat....
All this is speculation but I'd be surprised if there weren't a story behind this.

My crystal ball says theft recovery. Boat was stripped of everything except the fiberglass and a stern-drive package was on hand or available.
Or it's just a case of.....>>>terminal stupidity.

That looks like the advertising shell my dealer used to have here. He closed up a while back, guess somebody bought the boat to convert it to a working one. I thought it did not have a hull ID and was not a regular hull. I will have to message him to see.

gotta imagine that thing would handle like crap considering wakeboard boats are designed with rudder and drive hardware under the boat not behind the boat. at least its a volvo, those are bulletproof drives.

Same as the guys that bastardize cars or anything else for that matter, why should a boat be any different? Some people just like to screw around and jack stuff up is all.

Razzman! I want that boat. Inboard/Outboard, or actually it's an outboard that's inboard part of the time, wipers, rolldown windows like the Corvette Malibu. Two tone paint. That's cherry.
The hull even looks a bit like a Mastercraft.
