Someone else (AtTheLake, BMartin) made this remark on another thread.

'The wraps are OK but the Oakley move of the year vid linked with it was happening.'

Check it out.

This is the link:

The winner to me was Tom Fooshee's Pete 7 (Holy hell did that look insane!!) or Steel's w2w 10. The w2w 10 is milestone trick. I remember when Steve Edwards hit the first toe 9 in competition, and how long it took for it to be a stock trick in riders runs. The w2w 10 will become a standard trick in a pros pass in a few years. Obviously the award went to an Oakley rider but I'm not going to spoil it for you, but there were harder tricks done.

Rathy didn't have a lifejacket on.

Anyway, yeah Fooshee's Pete 7 was probably my favorite too. every single one of those tricks is ridiculous

yeah, it was. the other trick from that video that i could watch a hundred times is Sovens (if i remember right) frontside 3 to backside 180.

Thanks for sharing. I had not seen that....pretty amazing to think all of that happened in 2009.

Justin, I was thinking the EXACT same thing. Can't wait to see what's in store for us this year.

reed hansens backside 5 was amazing

Fooshee's pete was sick, im sure hes nailing stuff like that on the cable all the time now, plus the cable helps alot to, but holy moly he was like a heli spinning that thing. Steel's w2w 10 was just stupid dumb crazy i think that should have won move of the year, but jesus how do you pick when you have Rathy just dropping sludge hammers daily, people better put helmets on .

John, I couldn't believe Reed did not win. That is a professional level trick on a wakeboard, and he goes and decides to do it on a WAKESKATE!?!!??! The trick that won was amazing, don't get me wrong, and it did go with the theme of an Oakley rider winning, BUT that is something that tons of riders are doing. Maybe not that specific trick but they are doing kickflips, varial flips, and a ton of other flip tricks off rails. Because he is so good at flipping off rails, i don't think it is that much harder for him than off the water. I guess just because it isn't hard for him doesn't disqualify it for trick of the year. To me though, a backside 5 on a wakeskate is almost like Tony Hawks 9. If they were giving the award to flip trick, I think the ones down the gaps they were hitting. With the BS 5 if Reed didn't do his frontflip dismount I honestly would have questioned if he wasn't just playing a goof on us and had his shoes attached to the board

that is an awesome video!!!

yeah kyle, I agree. To throw such a smooth and clean bs 5 is hard enough when you're strapped in, but to do it on a wakeskate is a whole nother level. I cant believe he did not win.

haha well according to wakeskating.com it is essentially a strapper trick that doesn't push wakeskating and a bunch of guys could do it if they wanted to lol

I agree, I would have gone a different way in choosing the winning tricks. I thought Reed's 5 was the winner there (the fact that it's a strapper trick doesnt take away from it, and guys could do it if they wanted to, but they havent done it, so there). I would also argue that Rathy's ole 10 was more progressive than the straight back 10. The back 10 was landed a little cleaner, but the ole...tough stuff. Pete 7 was sick too.

Ben, IMHO Rathy did not deserve to take that. Steel's w2w 10 was really groundbreaking for the sport and deserved the win. And yes, I am saying this solely because Rathy's trick was wrapped. I am not taking ANYTHING away from it because I thought it was really amazing and I even think him wrapping up added more style to it, but for the trick of the year, if there is a wrapped double up 10 vs an unwrapped w2w 10, the unwrapped non DU trick has to take it.

I'm looking at the trick purely from the number of elements included in it. Wake to wake beats double up for sure, but I would put wrapped equal to regular, just because of the difference in approach, and the different pull it gives you. Rathy gets the extra point from me for the ole. Personally I'm a big fan of wrapped tricks, so there's my bias, and I dont see doing the 10 wake to wake as being as groundbreaking as a backside 10. Different strokes for different folks.

My personal preference goes with the backside 10. I think the wrap is probably just as a difficult as not wrapping, but if you argue that it is easier... keep in mind that it was "grabbed". Not only the first backside 10 but the first grabbed 10. I think that wrapped grab bs 3s are way harder than a bs 3 that you only handlepass.

That and I haven't even heard rumors of anybody else trying bs 10s of any kind. I remember seeing Phil Soven trying a w2w 10 a long time ago, as well as the more recent Bob Soven, Harely Clifford, Rusty Malinoski, and Bryan Hutton all trying it some of which were somewhat close.

Not to take anything away from Steel, the kid is so young and he came out of nowhere and stomped something that is truly amazing and the first of its kind. I'm hoping he'll stomp the first w2w 12 for Move of the Year 2010

Can I ask a really dumb question- how can I get the picture BIGGER!?!?!? Ordinarily (ie like Norbifilms dot com :-) videos like this are hosted on Vimeo which give you full screen option (and even basics like rewind) I get none of that and on the wake one, a picture 2" x 2"... Is this "operator error" or is this really all there is?
Old     (lfxstar)      Join Date: Jul 2001       01-12-2010, 3:53 AM Reply
There is a little expander button that you can make it full screen with. Just drag your mouse on the bottom and they will all pull up. And no Tim it is not operator error. It is the dumbest video player of all time. You can't even rewind to play the trick again. And what is with the mens wakeboard player being a quarter of the size as wakeskate and women??
I also heard a rumor that the sbend Raimi did was on one of Those extended towers. That was a PRETTY weak video for the girls but some tricks were missing. Nicola I'm pretty sure hit a bs 5 and that's about it now that I think about it lol. Come on girls!!! Step it up!!! There is a reason your tour is getting canceled and it has a lot to do with the passes from last year not progressing since 1999. The top 3 or 4 are putting some good tricks in their runs now. We are seeing some mobes, some better spinning, more stylish grabs but after them it is pretty embarassing. I saw a girl fall on a scarecrow and another fall on a tantrum, two tricks that unless grabbed shouldn't even be in a pros run (but they still are, even Dallas).

Waterdork, it wasn't the ole bs 10 that one lol so you too do not agree with the winning trick. You just agree on a different winning trick. I will go with you and say the ole bs 10 now that I think about it is the hardest trick by far in this contest although now that I've thought about it, so is Sean O'briens osmosis 7. Those are two tricks that I don't see anyone else being able to do in the video. Sean pretty much grabs the handle while he is just about landing blind, and Rathy's ole, intentional or not, is just......who does that!!!!!!! (besides Adam fields on toe 5s). Wrap, double up blastoff, spin, grab, ole, handle pass, land. All facets of wakeboarding besides for osmosis in one trick. And we thought a double pits to chesty was hard.

Hmmm, what? I'm confused. I know the bs 10 won. I agree with the judges because I too would pick the bs 10 over the ole 10.

My bad dude, I confused the word "only" with "ole". I guess that's what happens when you post right when you wake up at 5:30 in the morning LOL!!
