aha get the f out. Is it too much to ask for large LCD's when you're dropping 60k+ on a boat? Serious, CC, MC, Bu, and Tige are all putting little LCDs in their boats like they think we're still living in 2000. Put something big, nice and functional in there, LCDs are cheap in 2009!

with rocker switches? it looks like someone pieced together an airplane dash after a crash! what ever happened to the K.I.S.S. methodology? I can see myself telling my wife now: "push the third little centurion button from the top!"

Andrew is this more like what you had in mind? I think the dash looks a little empty. Give me a couple of round dials to go with the LCD.

Those are called multi-function buttons. Multi-function buttons usually have text next to them that describe the function. As you menu through the buttons the text changes and they do something different. (Message edited by Bigshow on February 12, 2009)

Show - Well i mean if they're going to go LCD only, put something big that looks good. And those heli controls are nice, but I could use a little more... like this Complete with backseat drivers. (Message edited by taft on February 12, 2009)

Bigger LCDs are more prone to damage, not as robust. So what do you need in an LCD display in a boat? what should it do for you?

Either do LCDs so it reflects the value of the boat, or don't do it at all. If it is too risky to make it look good, then LCDs should not even be considered at this time.

the two warriors/trojans look stupid next to it. why not copy malibu even more and put something useful there? it looks like a boat sponsored by usc.

You have to have new function, improved performance, some improvement for man, otherwise it’s just fluff. I could see a GPS navigation capability with way points. We were on Lake Laurel in Kentucky a few years ago. It’s a kind of big lake with lots of fingers or coves. After a short time the shore line looked all the same. We got lost twice, once looking for the marina, and the second time looking for a boat ramp. A navigation GPS would help. I’ve seen some other boat’s LCD. It showed the state of ballast. I’m not aware the Centurion has been putting fill gauges in their ballast tanks. That might be helpful but the new fill gauges add to boat cost. (Message edited by Bigshow on February 12, 2009)

In my opinion, an LCD at this time would best fit with displaying secondary information as well as being the control for your onboard media. Let it display navigation, ballast levels, tab information, engine information, and music/video. Primary information, such as speed, rpm, and the sort should remain separate. That's a tough call. There's just another LCD display and there's improving function. I go back to what is the LCD going to do for you that you're not getting already. We test drove a Civic this year. It had a central LCD display. I kind of didn’t like it, there were other things I didn’t like about the Civic, we bought an Accord. I guess I’m not ready for change yet. Anyway the point is that cars are slowly transitioning to LCD displays. No one is whining about copying Lexus, or Cadillac, are they? It’s the wave of the future. I’m sure that if LCDs are in Civics that the end result is a more cost effective car. Boat manufacturer adoption of dynamic, multi-function display technology lags aviation and the automotive markets. Malibu isn’t that special in this regard.

LCDs allow more information to be displayed than conventional displays. Ex. you press a button and the display changes to show something above and beyond what it was initially showing. Another example is shown in that helicopter picture. Put in one LCD and you can take out 3 displays. Something along those lines. That is their benefit. (Message edited by taft on February 12, 2009)

How many displays do you have, can a new cleaner look be made with less displays? You open up new options when you arn't forced to fit in additional displays. And Supras dont have LCDs... I'm not including the displays that perfect pass has had for years... (Message edited by taft on February 12, 2009)

You place critical information front and center. As the display of control is less important it moves further away from the center. Multi-function displays shouldn't have too many levels. Too many levels take too long to navigate and become frustrating to users.

I do. Suppose you have important engine information that you can see because you’re flipping through your play list. Or suppose you’re using GPS, you might have small speed or RPM display on the LCD, but a larger display has the same important information for easy viewing.

Kevin, those are 2 Malibu Dash's you have there. Neither one is the CC version. CC Has more Chrome around it and in my opinion a better layout, not to mention a GPS.

Show On Centurions screen the speed and rpm are always on top and any engine warnings pop up on top to alert you to the problem

Unfortunately it is Mercurys choice not to let other manufactures into there ECM That is why there is no Zero off for Mercs. Maybe this will force Mercursier to open there ECM. I was getting this from press releases from the Miami Show
