Hey guys, I have a crownline 19ss I/O with a monster tower and im trying to make due with what I have, it has a 220 merc v8. I talked to my dealer yesterday and I have a 3 blade 20 or 21 pitch aluminum prop on there now. Im looking for a better hole shot. I know the High Fives are the way to go but at 550 bucks im a little reluctant to pull the trigger. Can you guys recommend something cheaper that could do a decent job without breaking the bank? Or is the High Five the only way to go? As far as weight goes I typically have 2-3 peeps on board and I am picking up about 400lbs of extra ballast for the front of the boat.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Doug, check out hillmarine.com, they make a five blade SS prop for $349 and a 4 Blade SS for $279
They're based out of Costa Mesa, CA. and been making their own props for over 20yrs. and they have a prop exchange program if you're stuck between Pitchs..i.e. 19 vs 21...

hey doug, i know those high-5's are spendy, but they're worth every penny imo.

better hole-shot, hold plane at slower speed, better steering/handling at cruising.

really about the only downside other than the price is a small drop in top end and steering in reverse isn't as good as your stock prop.

if you can swing it or wait a bit and save your money, i'd recommend it.

I just spoke with Ron via Email, he is suggesting me dropping to a 17 pitch 5 blade, I just want to make sure with you guys that this sounds right before I pull the trigger. Please let me know what you think

That will make a great wakeboarding prop as long as you dont care about killing your top end

doug. I had a similar boat with same eng. You need a HI-five 19 Pitch. Don't get anything else. You will not be happy.
