Took a number of biology classes for my major, we worked on cadavers. If it is broken out near the tip of you toe, it is essentially how much pain you can handle. The only thing that will heal the toe is to keep it immobalized. Minor nerve damage may occur in the tip of you toe, depending on how bad the break is, but the key is the knuckle of your toe. If you want to avoid arthirtus later, I would stay off it until it heals, but if you want to ride, and you can stand the pain, by all means go for it.
