i have a 96 supersport with real bad sound. I was just going to do one thing at a time, so for the moment i thought i could get by with just four good 6 inch speakers. its a cheap upgrade i can do by the weekend. I've got that cloth cover built into the vinyl for speaker grills, so i never knew what i had in there and assumed they were stock 5" because everything sounded so weak. turns out they were replaced, and some clarion 6 1/2 were back mounted in there. they look kinda new and for 100W i thought they would sound better. so my question is how schit are these speakers? if you are driving the boat, you can barely hear them. are four 6 inch speakers running off of a deck just that weak in a boat because of the open air (compared to having the same thing in a car)? if so, i better start learning about amps and subs. one other thing - the original 5" setup has a plastic tube built into the panels. the clarions are of course larger than this tube, and when backmounted, are kind of restricted. i don't know how much this would muffle the sound. would i be wasting $$$ upgrading these? would the improvement be small, medium, or large? thanks for any help
