This totally made my morning. A section from the Sidewayz flick Six Pack. Sideways always delivered back in the day. I always admired Sharpiro's raw power riding. Going huge on little wakes. Note the Orbital at the 1:00 min mark. S-Bend 5 at 1:24 and HS Front to Blind @ 1:49. Trick that no one does still to this day.

That was awesome! I wish Ron from Sidewayz would start making films again.

If you love wakeboarding, you need to order "10,000 Miles of Film." It is a great walk through history and has about 90% of my favorite video sections from when I was growing up.
You need to get the FLF: "Spray, Hit it!, Mayday" combo pack too while you are at it.

Mayday is my favorite film along with switch 22. Murray in Switch 22 is freakin hilarious.

Doesn't he have an orbital 7 at 1:55? in addition to the orbital 5 in that edit? S-bend to blind/5, how many people doing that these days behind the boat!
That switch pete into the flats too was ridiculous

He was/is clearly an athletic rider. Don't see many as stacked as he was these days.

You're right. The Orbital is a very unique trick which I wish we would see more people do, it seems to have a backroll to blind element to it without passing the handle...

He did have a Orbital 7 back in the day. And no body as far as I know is doing Orbitals or Fronts to Blind. I tried a front to blind a few times, I caught my heel edge like never before.

The only person I know is currently doing front to blinds is Tony Iacconi, and he takes them to 3 as well. Orbitals on the other hand? I've never seen anyone but Darin bang those out

Has anyone else ever landed a double front? I can't think of anyone, even with all the guys landing double rolls these days, I still don't see anyone doing double fronts. Legit.

I think being 4'11" and built like a brick s#ithouse lends itself to quick flipping. Too bad it didnt pan out for him.

What didn't pan out?
I think people don't throw double fronts due to the fact of the impactful landings. Look at the dent he puts in the water

Probably referring to the more recent legal issues surrounding him and not his abilities on the water

Darin is top 5 wakeboarder of all time in my book. Back when you had Byerly and Shapiro competing to be the top guy in the sport it was awesome because they were so different. Now wakeboarders are all doing the same tricks and it all looks the same for the most part. No disrespect to how good these guys are today but the Shapiro/Byerly difference reminds me of Bird/Magic in the NBA.

Yeah the Iron Cross was badass! I remember talking to Darin telling him he needed to start doing that trick again because it looked so epic.

I'm vaguely remembering this but I think there is a video where Darin rails into a double up wrapped for the iron cross and it's HUGE. I could be completely wrong but remember the shaft and shafted video's? I think it's in that. Now I gotta search the web and see if I can find it lol.

Haha thanks Jason! I looked ALL OVER youtube, vimeo, and google yesterday trying to find it and couldn't. That trick did look bad ass and I remember even the rope looked crazy when he did the trick. Miss those old vids I need to invest in the collection.

Someone needs to set up an orbital challenge. This move is too cool for only one person on this planet to be doing them.
