I figure there have been quite a few individual threads where people ask, myself included, "how do you setup the surf wake for ___________?" I was just getting ready to post this again, because although I do like my setup, I wish the pocket was a tad longer. So, name your boat, weight, speed, wakeplate, trim tabs, etc. Anything you got to help someone out with a similar boat. And pics are good if you got'em.
Sorry if this has been beaten to death and/or posted somewhere else, but here goes...
I'll start.
03 Supra Launch SSV
Center GG full (1100)
Surf Side GG full (565)
Additional 600 full on surf side (if starboard, located behind driver seat on floor. If port side, located on seat as far forward as possible)
wakeplate set at 75% up
ppl: one on back swim deck surfside, one in back of boat surfside
10.7 MPH
In general, better goofy wake. Good high wake, but short pocket.
next..

03 Ski Centurion Avalanche C4
Center Ballast tank full (#250)
Avalanche sac full (#1500) on which ever side we are surfing
Transom Sac full, plus it has 100# of shot in it so a total of (#235) on the swim deck
2-#100 pound lead bricks that have matching carpet on which ever side we are surfing. I hate having sacs on seats.
Total weight: #2,185
We ride around 12 on stargazer gps. At 11 my wave is giant! But airs etc.. get way easier with speed.
Trim tab is normally up on both sides.
New 1:1.46 v-drive ratio to help with the weight and I run an acme 1579 prop.
Custom swim deck that doesn't touch or affect my wave at all.

Some very nice wakes. I'm amazed at the weight you guys are using, though. I'm around 1,600 including my people ballast.
'02 Tige 23V
Custom port side surf sac, theoretically, I think, it holds 1,280, maybe I get 1,100 in it
Taps on 4 when it works Currently @ 8 1/2 rotations out from full stop (not recommended)
Two people, Judy 98 pounds wet and wearing boots? me driving, around 190
We normally ride with Dennis, which ads @ 280 pounds, but in this photo we have a fat buddy (no offense BK! ) where Dennis normally sits. Figure 225
Water 1,100
People/BK Sac 515
Total 1,615
Speed is at 11.

Custom 247 Surf Sac = 1600 +or- Auto drains and fills no pumps over the side = hellzyeah
400 Lb Tube sac under observers seat = Auto drains and fills no pumps over the side = hellzyeah
May add a 750 depending on crew size. me and the wife only = 750. four or more no go.
May add a 400 Lb sac to the platform as well for shiz and gigs
Regular and Goofy wave rock!
If you want a serious surf machine the 247 packs a monster punch.

2005 Centurion Cyclone
For surfing: usually around 11.2mph
appropriate rear locker full with a 750 lb sac
100 lbs lead front side
100 lbs lead midship appropriate side
240 center tank full
300 lb sac rear seat on surf side
optional if not enough peeps : 3 80lb sacs
Then all peeps placed properly. We run very little weight up front!
Boat is exceptional on both sides. Probably better on the dark side, but we spend more time dialing it in over there. Trying to get a pic uploading but it keeps giving me an error.

What do you have up front? I am keeping the 500 centre bag, putting the new 1100's on either side. Not sure how much to put up front? I know for wakeboarding you should run 60/40, back to front, but what about surfing?

anybody else with older supra ssv or comparable moomba? I was just curious if y'all are filling up center sac all the way (1150 lbs)? With only 1 addl person on board I can get a good wake with like I described at top (center full 1150, rear surf side full 565, addl surf side sac full appx 600), but with only one person on board I drive around 10-10.5. I've talked to a few ppl recently who didn't seem to think the center sac should be full all the way. Granted, these are just ppl I talk to, not ones that have ridden behind my boat. This my 2nd summer with the boat and I am still tweaking, but I feel like its pretty decent, but I was wondering if maybe not filling the center sac all the way and maybe driving faster would accomplish a better wake? After seeing some of these pics, I think I need to figure out how to lengthen the pocket...

Jeremy, fill the opposite side rear sac with about 300lbs and it will add more push to your wake. I have an 08 Moomba XLV and use 1100 rear sac, 1180 center (only half or slightly more than half full), and 400 on surfside floor with only the driver as well. I have another 400lb sac that I haven't used but I will try it on the surf side seat and/or the bow.

Long time reader just starting to post. Had to share a funny picture...we had to test our surf wake out in Feb., so son gears up and rides a massive wave!!!
07 VLX with 750's, front and center ballast full, corner full, 750 on the seat (don't normally do), plus we always have 480lbs of pop bags for fine tuning the wave! We love our Malibu, but also appreciate any nice, massive, wake for surfing because we know the time and effort spent to get it dialed in!!
Remember young kid on a big board, but pretty good wave!

Pete, you wave looks really good, it may be a little short and tall, but plenty of meat to spread out at higher speeds. Definitely no "trick photography crap." Your picture was taken from well inside the boat. V23's throw really good waves in my experience.

Some great pics. I write software, and one of these days I want to build a type of parametric search tool for wakes by different manufacturers. But there would have to be some way to standardize how the pictures were taken, or some way of basic measurement that could be done, so apple to apples could be done. Not sure how to do that.

I put together some good pics of both sides, 2 boats, 2 setups. This is the best angle to photo, to see distance and length of the wake.
RJ weighs about 140 riding a 4.6 JWSM from TWP. This is 11mph, with ~1000lbs enzo type sac in that one corner, and the people you see, nothing else. RJ still has room to go back in this picture. Here is another, he is launching, so you get an idea of his position in the pocket, closer forward, in the "launch" area.
Here is one with RJ at the back of the pocket.
Here is my oldest daughter on the regular side of the wake, same setup. She is forward in the pocket here.
Here is Ashley in the middle, can't find one of her in the back of the pocket.
Here is a pic of thomas about 3/4 of the way back or so, goofy.
Here is a nephew we were teaching, about 3/4 the way back on regular side.
I tried to use pics, that are all taken from normal position in back seat, normal lens not wide angle. And of course the chase boat pics. So nothing tricky here.
Now this is interesting, this is a 2010 RZ2, and the setup is 100% stock. This is the pro stock ballast from Tige, empty in the front, full in corner, only 600 lbs of water. 250 in under floor tank, and 350 in a sac in the locker, thats it, plus the people you see. The wake is about the same as our tige, and just gets bigger when you add weight.
Here is the regular side, again, STOCK, plus people.
This pic shows you people setup, I know I am a big dude, but still this is stock.
If you want to see comp weighted RZ2 shots, the festival shots are great.

Ragboy, thanks for the comments about the pic!! I laugh every time it see it! Also thanks for all your efforts you put into wake surfing. It is so enjoyable to watch my kids teach their buddies and others, hang out on the back of the boat (I know), good tunes, and good quality family time!
We love the lake, the people, and the family time it provides!!
Great looking new boat, looking forward to new pics and I have enjoyed the build process!

Thanks, I showed RJ that pic. We had to review that RZ2 in October, it was like 62, but that looks like nothing compared to your pic. I showed RJ, he says, "Dude, thats hardcore". So tell your kid RJ says he is hardcore. I think its the shoes that make it for me. Just made me laugh.
Send me a PM, I will have RJ send you guys out some T-Shirts or something.

Any pictures taken from the swimstep with the camera low or a person leaning way out the side again with the camera low. There may exist reasons to take those shots (artistic) but for the purpose of displaying ones wave they are unuseful. Let be honest here Pete, your wave is not consistently over your waste so why don't you post a legit picture of the wave. I find it telling that you immediatly got offended when I didn't single out anyone.

Sorry to burst your bubble sunshine but that picture was taken from inside the boat. Not on the swimstep, not on the sunpad, but from a seated position within the boat.

Yes, let's be honest.
My wave is consistently over my waist. Sorry that you have trouble with that concept but you might want to consider that there are folks out there with longer, and heavier, boats than yours. You also need to consider that those folks are adding much more weight to their already heavy boats than you do.
The picture that I posted Is "legit" according to your funny definition of "legit." There is no "trick photography crap" going on. Just some snapshots taken by my daughter from within the boat.
Just some facts to help you out there sunshine!

You're confusing being offended with being amused at your toolish behavior.
Here are many more pics from that session. All "legit" and taken while seated inside the boat. Please pay attention to the wave height. It should help prevent you from posting more fantasies.
Maybe.

It does make a big difference. Its about comparing apples to apples. Its not just getting low, when you take the pic from the swim deck, you have to use a wide angle lens, it just makes the wake look abnormally huge. Then it gives someone the impression that if they use your setup, they are going to get a wave up to their head.
Those pictures have a place, they are LOTS of fun. But not very helpful when trying to compare with others.

@ragboy-I kinda disagree due to there is currently no standard way to take a surf wave pic in which wave height and pocket length can be measured. Therefore all of these pics are more or less for ornamental purposes and are not "very helpful when trying to compare with others".
Beside the TS asked for surf setups....the pics are just a welcome bonus.

While that is obviously true I'm sure you can agree that from the vantage of the swim pad its the most consistent depiction of both height and length. I just feel it lends the best perspective. Then again I am just the resident WW tool

@dennis you are right, there is no standard way. I am not knockin your pics. I love em. I just mean, when it does come to comparison, they are not very helpful. And when you add them to a setup post, it can make people think you can expect that from the setup, and the picture is misleading. But I do understand, there is no real standard. I think the closest thing to a standard would be from the corner seat of the back of the boat, camera just above sun pad, using a regular camera, or normal 28-55mm lens on a SLR. Of course, that isn't written down anywhere.

@ragboy...again...lol.
One of my pics was from "the corner seat of the back of the boat, camera just above sun pad, using a regular camera".....but yet you claim it to be "not very helpful".

@somepeteguy Thats a great wake, and great pics, no doubt. It should be good, thats almost 4000 lbs with ballast and people. ;-)
I have thought at times how much fun it would be to get nuts one day. If I do do it, it would be in the fall, after the season. RJ and I usually screw around at that time. But for me, that kind of weight would be impractical.
If you ever get a chance, I would love to see what that looks like from the side, from a chase boat. Or better yet, see it in person, where are you from?

Sorry Dennis, I mean that the pics that are very low, etc, etc are not very helpful. I will admit at first, looking at pete's pick, it just looked phony. Then looking at the others, and then looking closely at his weight setup, I realized, damn, thats alot of weight, and dude, cool wake. But at first glance, didn't look right.
It would be nice to figure out a cool way to judge a wake, more objectively, maybe the AWSA would come up with some way. Anyway, don't take offense at the picture issue, it wasn't necessarily pointed at any one picture or person, just see it a lot.
Where you from Dennis? That is some beautiful blue water.
