http://www.turbosound.com/showroom/tcs40/index.html if you could get a car amp that would put 480+W into 8 ohms, this baby would be rockin! Plus it is made for longer throw than car speakers, so odds are it would sound better at 75'

actually, car sudio only runs at 4 or 2 ohms because of the voltage applied to the amplifiers. if you want the absolute best car audio, get Focal Utopias. if you want hella good, but reasonably priced ($600/pair) get Image Dynamics chamelions. I know a guy who took ALL contests in the midwest and 6th in the nation with only 2 chamelions and about 240w at 4 ohms to th speakers. and it's not about the power or speaker that makes it sound good or loud, it all about the enclosure. Make sure it's perfect. http://www.focal-america.com http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com

Focals are sweet, but I actually like the sound of Kevlar woofer over the Utopis. The Utopias series just has a better tweeter. ID is great stuff. The 6.75 Kevlars will hit like a sub. For tower speakers, I use CDT high definition series mid bass. I have used most high end mid bass drivers and the CDTs by far are the most efficient and have the flattest curve and clear mid. The CDTs are about 3dbs louder than any other speaker I have metered on my tower at the same wattage. 3dbs is a lot and as general rule of thumb is attainted by doubling the power. So the CDts at 100 watts would be the same or higher spl as Focal, MBs, and Boston at 200 watts. I would not use a Focal Speaker on a tower. Focals will not take a whole lot of power as their voice coils are fragile. I hit my Kevlars with 110 watts off a McIntosh and I have to back down on the gains just a bit. Utopia are the same way. I hit my CDTs with 300 watts. This would fry the Focals and MB Quart Qs (know from experience). Boston Accoustics will handle the power as will Dynaudio. The Dynaudio with the Morel drivers may be the best but they will not fit into conventional 6.5 cutouts. Focals will also not fit into conventional cutouts. Both are larger than 6.5. If you are making a box, no problem, but they will not fit into Boss Cannisters.

Doug id like you opinion on what freq i should use as a crossover point for these speakers http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/PHOT8 and http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&User_ID=11722451&St=9895&St2=8496955 2&St3=80729127&DS_ID=3&Product_ID=7376&DID=7 unfortunately i cant find data on the freq range of the PG's and even called their tech line to no avail. Here are the crossovers im looking at, keep in mind im going CHEAP http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&User_ID=11722451&St=9895&St2=8496955 2&St3=80729127&DS_ID=3&Product_ID=5620&DID=7 or this one http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&User_ID=11722451&St=9895&St2=8496955 2&St3=80729127&DS_ID=3&Product_ID=5621&DID=7 I was reading that you should crossover the tweet 1-2 octaves above fs and that would put me at 1700-2700, im just concerned if i go too low i may cook the tweet and if i go too high ill be loosing some of the range??

I could not pull up the tweeters or the parts express pages, but I run most tweeters between 2.5 k and 3 k. Depends on the mids. Some mids such as CDT stay very strong up to 3k or 3.5k. 8s I would cross at 120 or less, depending on mids. If a good mid bass that stays flat to around 70 - 90, the cross bwteen 80 and 100. A safe place to start is mid bass or sub < 100, mids 100 - 2,500, and tweets 2,500 and up. If you hear holes, try adjusting up with the tweeters and between 90 and 120 with the mid bass.
