First Look: Super Air Nautique G21

2014 Super Air Nautique G21Well, it's never easy making a trip from San Diego all the way across the country to Orlando, but it's tough to complain when you're met with sunshine, a private lake, 13 of the top pro wakeboarders, wakeskaters and wakesurfers and two brand new boats that practically nobody has seen yet. I'm talking about my trip to the Correct Craft factory lake to get the first look at the new Super Air Nautique G21.

Obviously, this is the younger brother of both the G23 and G25, providing a smaller package for those that don't need all the space or have maximum size requirements on their lake. It actually comes in at 21.5 feet (hull only, that does not include swimstep or exhaust), so it's only a foot and a half shorter than the G23. Six inches of that comes out of the front seats and theother 12 inches come out of the rear seats, keeping the rear storage lockers pretty much the same size as the G23. For those of you wondering how much money you'll save by lopping off that four and a half, you're probably looking at around a $13,000 differnce from the G23, putting the starting price right around $110,000.

Tommy CzeschinThe boat is as visually stunning as its bigger brothers and there are two new graphics that are both simple and stylish. They were able to keep the width of the boat the same (102") and even maintain the same amount of under-floor ballast (2,850 lbs.). Of course, it also features the LINC 2.0 Digital Helm System, Nautique Surf System with Waveplate (optional) and the Nautique Configurable Running Surface.

There were a few tweaks for 2014 that may make it look a little different. The rear vents are made of a different materal giving them a different look. There is a GoPro mount on top of the rope mount so that you can add a video camera of your choice (using a GoPro camera mount accessory) and change it out whenever you want. The rope mount is set up so that the camera will always follow the rider as they move back and forth across the wake. They've moved up to a 17-inch prop and have changed the gear ratio in order to get more torque out of the same engine. There is a bunch of confusing math involved, but the end result is better performance.

You make a few sacrifices with the shorter length when you lose the under-floor cooler space and the glove box on the dash. Although the passenger side storage is still huge, it's not quite big enough for you to sleep in. Nau-Teak flooring is the only option available in the G21 as there has been little demand for carpet in the other G models.

Mike DowdyAs far as the wake goes, the general consensus was that it's pretty impressive for such a small boat. Most opinions point at it being a little lippier with a deeper trough than the G23, but most of the riders were hitting it for the very first time and absolutely going off.

That's all the information that my little brain was able to retain from my day with the Nautique riders and engineers. Below you can see the full list of specs on the new Super Air Nautique G21. Hopefully, the photos and video of both the boat and the wakes will answer any other questions you might have.
