Thus not including the sport models or super sport. Just plain old Ski Nautiques. That being said i've been looking into purchasing a boat and i know that the 2001 models have one of the best wakes for wakeboarding for older boats. But know my question is, is the wake of the 90's models better then the 2001? I am wondering because ive found some 2001's online but alot of them are kinda thrashed and for a nicer one , its almost the same a a few of the 90's models ive found. So.... price aside is the wake of the 90's model better or worse then the 2001. All opinions are welcome, including the wake when weighted etc.... thanks!

For wakeboarding performance, refer to the schema below. (Some people might quibble with the sport vs. 2001 placement, but that's not really relevant to your question.)

Super sport > sport > 2001 > ... > later model ski nautiques.

Basically, the 2001 is the ONLY Ski Nautique that is really good for wakeboarding.

I have an '88 2001 and a '93 Ski.
2001 is better for wakeboarding. to get a comparable wake in the Ski, you need ~3 times as much weight. for a "good" wake, you need only about 500lbs in the 2001, but about 1500lbs in the Ski. the 2001 also has the potential to get bigger than the ski. I also think the 2001 has a better shape...but they are pretty close. that being said, the Ski has other advantages like more storage, 1.23:1 transmission, no wood to rot, quieter, smoother, more stable with weight. If all you do is wakeboard and you don't mind an older, louder, more rough around the edges, possibly rotten floor/stringers...go with the 2001...

I own a 84 2001 and man that thing is awesome. There are a couple other newer ski's on the lake and there wake isnt anything like mine. I will have some pictures from yesterday later and will post. David and I agreed it was the best wake we had so far. Here is a pic of the wake. This was with around 1000lbs and myself and 2 chicks in the boat. The wake from yesterday was nicer. Pictures to come. Upload

burban, that looks meaty. What was the setup 600/400 r/f or something like that?

a 440 on each side of the motor box, 2-300ish up front. 2 chicks in the back and my 240lb ass in the driver seat.

Yesterday was 2 440's beside the motor box, 2-300ish up front, my fat ass up front, 60ish lbs behind me on the 440, my girl and another 240lb fat ass friend in the back. Upload

i dont think these wake pictures do yesterday justice, we had new camera and camera man but i think David may put in a word for it. Upload

Yes, the wake yesterday was pretty phenomenal - definitely the best thus far. The 2001's are pretty narrow, and sit pretty deep in the water as is. You can't beat a 2001 nautique as far as "bang for you buck" wakeboat goes. Also, not only how much weight you're running, but just as important is the placement of it. That's what Raymond and I have been toying around with was just moving the wake around seeing what works best.

I rode behind a mid 90's sport nautique 4 years ago or so and the wake wasn't even comparable..
