So I am contemplating using 3 pumps instead of 2, possibly even 4. But still want to use 2 switches. I am using 10 gauge wire from the battery to the switch and from the switch to the pump. Is it OK to just split the wires coming from the switch to 2 pumps so that 1 switch can run 2 pumps? the pumps are Jabsco's and the wiring is all 10 gauge.

Thanks
Bill

you can use the same switch but I would run new power to the new pump or pumps
install a relay and new fuse on the new line
you can just split the wires but you'll have to change the fuse out for a higher one 30 amp to 40 amp , etc

So each pump would have its own power direct from the battery and just split the wire coming from the switch to close each relay?

The pumps will pull to many amps for the switch. Your switch is matched for the power of one pump. If you are dead set on wiring it that way you will need to get the appropriatley sized relay and wire it that way. Other wise you are at risk of melting the switch on two pumps.

just add one relay for the new pump with the switch hot to turn it on
this will seperate the two pumps but both would be operate by the same switch
I would add another switch then no need for the relay ( adding new circuit) but need open circuit breaker or replace pump breaker with an incresased amperage (double original)
I can e mail you a drawing if you like
also do you have any open switches or open circuit breakers?
