i heard that you can only surf on one side of a v-drive. is that true?

No, but one side is better than the other depending on prop rotation. If your LH rotation the port side is best. Do I need to tell you what it is for RH?

nope, engine placement has nothing to do with what side is better/equal.

My kids have surfed both sides of my D drive. Of course they're too young to know better. One side is still easier to get right than the other.

I didn't know prop rotation had anything to do with it...

We usually surf on the port side of my 22SSV, should we try the other?

not unless you're a goofy rider like me or you can ride dark side but that's very tough to do.
