i am looking at selling my boat this spring. i have just got a promotion and looking to upgrade in a big way. my family owns a house on a huge lake so i am looking at either buying an x-star and a bigger baja(not for sure which one yet) or just an x-80. so my question is, how good of an everyday wakeboarding boat is the monster. i mean am i going to double the price tag in fuel for the first summer with the twin engines, or does the thing cruise 25 mph at idle with all that power. i know the wake is huge and has a good shape but i just didn't know if it was a reasonable boat for wakeboarding 3-5 times a week.

hope this doesn't offend. but if you have 100k to spend on a wakeboat then your definition of reasonable is different than mine :-)

I'd get two boats... one cruiser and one wake boat for the 100k.

well i just mean that every time we go out now i can plan on going through a tank of gas. and thats about 100-130 bucks to fill up. i didn't know if in the x-80 you would go through a tank in a day too resulting in about $300-350 for 4 guys to take 2 sets a piece.

IMO, If you can afford a X-80, then what does gas matter?

refer to the first statement. i'm not trying to get anything going here, i just didn't know if twin engines in a v-drive would suck gas even worse than i am currently imagining, which is twice as much as a single engine v-drive.

I have been wakeboarding behind the X-80 and it is not fun. You have to go at faster speeds to get a clean wake. I was afraid to try anything because if I fell it was going to hurt bad! If you have a lake house then you don't need a big boat for wakeboarding. Go with an X-2 for wakeboarding in the mornings and evenings and then a cruiser for the afternoons. Just my opinion. Our lake house is on a really busy lake and we just use the wakeboard boat in the mornings and evenings and then park it during the day. Too choppy to attempt riding.

The X80 is a great boat but check the boat buyers guide with the new Wakeboarding Mag. I work at a Mastercraft dealer and we have sold a few X80's but there are mixed reviews about the wakeboarding aspect. The surfing wake is unreal through!!

The best thing to do is test drive it and see if it's what you're looking for.

In my opinion you would be a lot better off with an Xstar or similar wake specific boat and the Baja. The X80 isn't that good of a wake boat and is more of a party cruiser. If you want something fast they aren't that fast either. What size baja's are you looking at? I am helping out a dealership here in Washington for the boat show and they carry, Fountain, Baja, Eliminator, Donzi and a couple other power boats.

hey thanks guys, thats one of the things i was worried about, was having to have everybody in the boat ride at 27 mph or better. i think i'm going to try to test drive an epic and a supra 24ssv. i really like how steep the wakes look behind the epic, the amazing amount of hidden ballast and the transom speaker setup.

From what I have herd the X80 is not really a fast boat even with the twins (I think less than 60 even with the 496's). If you are looking at a Baja cause you want to go fast then you may want to reconsider on the X80. If your looking for a big boat to party in and ride behind then the X80 is pretty sweet.
BTW - A 29 or a 30 Baja only really sits about 5 - 6 comfortably unless you stick people down in the cuddy and no one what's to sit down there.

well thats the plan i want a boat to ride behind and a boat that can get me across the lake, i don't need to run any faster than 35 really, so i didn't know if i could combine both of those into an x80 or not or if i would have a boat thats hard to get across the lake in and a boat that was going to suck gas when trying to pull people.

Have you thought about the X45? Its 24 foot but not gigantic like the X80. Just a thought.

The X-45 holds 18 people.

x-45 was my thought also.

What about the new mc 265....
Old     (misfits1981)      Join Date: Aug 2007       01-25-2008, 2:57 PM Reply
The 265 is kinda lame. It's not quite a wakeboard boat, not quite a cruiser, not quite a fishing boat.

Depends on what level of wakeboarder you are really, but I would definately go the two boat route if I was in your situation. If you need a big wakeboard boat you cannot go wrong with the Supra 24SSV. More room than all those mentioned (except the X-80) and the wake is more easily adjusted for all rider levels. Plus it is rated for just as many people as the X-80.

I agree with Gene Williams.

I spent a good chunk of time behind a Supra 24SSV and can honestly say that after riding behind Nautiques, Centurions, Mastercrafts, Malibus, and Tiges, the 24SSV is my favorite wake.

Gene, you may be right on the wake of the 24ssv but there is no chance that it has more room in it than the X-45. Other advantages of the X-45 are snap-out carpet, under floor ballast and the huge bow due to the pickle fork. You can't go wrong with any of the big wakeboats, but my personal favorite is the X-45.

From the virtual test drive test analysis:
X45 main lounge area 66 sq. ft.
Bow 42 sq. ft.
platform 14 sq. ft.

24SSV main lounge are 62 Sq. ft.
Bow 18 sq. ft.
platform 12 sq. ft.

I thought the wake looked better for the 24SSV but it was really steep.

Sorry but I think an x80= a waste of money, if your gonna spend over 100k why not get an x-star, personally I think an x-star is wayy cooler. my 2c

man, that had to be one heck of a promotion for someone your age

my son rode behind briscoe's 24ssv last summer and really like the wake, but there is no way that boat is bigger than a x45.

actually 22, but yeah its nice going to college right out of high school and getting a degree even though it sucked really bad, i think it may pay off. i have looked at the 24ssv, the new gg edition graphics are pretty sweet and the at the base price it comes pretty much fully loaded, i didn't see much at all that you could really add to it.

Wait, you went to college straight out of high school and got a degree?

Unpossible!

i didn't mean to sound sarcastic, my mom just finished college, so we are in somewhat the same position but i'm 20 years younger than she is. so i'm saying that i'm glad i just went and did it instead of waiting like she did, or like some people do.

So let me get this right you just graduated college (congradulations) and you're now going to jump right in a get a new x star (call it ~75K) AND a bigger Baja (those will easily start north of 100K) what's this degree in anyway... Not saying it can't be done but lets just say it pushes the credibility a bit. If you never need to go more than 35 most any of the wake boats out there will do that so what's the need for the go fast?
