So what's the deal with the Masters divisions in wakesurfing being over 40? In EVERY other boardsport with a a masters division it's 30 and over.

For events that DO have a Masters and the majority of wakesurfing events still don't...there isn't a Veteran's class, which would be the typical break for 40'ish. Interestingly enough, the majority of "Masters" are in their 50's at these events. Wakesurfers can still be competitive at that age. Hopefully we'll get enough interest and participation to justify a Masters AND a Veterans class in future events and the divisions will be adjusted accordingly.

For NWL Wakesurf Nationals, on the 18th-19th, we have opened up eight (8) divisions. They are:

Youth
Men's
Women's
Master's (40 and over)
Long Board
Open Surf
Men's Open Skim
Women's Open Skim.

These divisions will be offered if two or more riders enter a division. My concept art for the divisions will be printed on limited edition event T-shirts, see below.

Here's my current concept of the division between Master's at 40 years and over and Veteran's say 80 years and older.

I think there should be a cat on the lap of the Veteran.

Maybe an oxygen tent, instead? :-)

I think an O2 tent would be too confining for the Kokopelli surf dude. Maybe bottled O2 and a hot nurse would be more fitting his style?

That's working for me! Wait! Is that the hot nurse? Is she topless? I'm presuming that's medicinal in some fashion?

Those are arms, trying to keep this at least PG-13.

Yo, Jeff I am one of those old farts (46)and would love to start riding in some wakesurf contests. Is there anyway you can put me on a list for info on upcoming events here on the west coast? (wash.) or within 500 miles or so?

I am not up in the veterans or masters division yet. But I would also like to know of contests in the area.
I almost went down to the Discovery bay contest but did not have enough time to get the time off work to make it down.

Hey Anthony and Micheal,

I talked with Jeff Page of Inland Surfer not too long ago and they are involved in hosting a contest in September up in WA. For this year, only the NWL Nationals in Dayton, Ohio and the World Wakesurfing Championships on Lake Yosemite in Merced, CA remain, outside of the contest that Inland Surfer is involved with.

If you guys will shoot me your emails addresses I'll be sure to put you on the email list.

Anthony,

I spoke to IS this week and they said it is most likely canceled. It was going to be more of a Demo days kind of thing but could not get the permits from the city to do it. If they can get the permits or a new local then it will be on.
