Hey ya'll I am thinking this summer to do a trip to Lake Shasta cause I never been! Can't afford to do the houseboat thing but would like to stay in a motel/cabin whatever that is well located to where all the hot spots are and was wondering if some of you local experts could give me an advise. Where are good value lodging? what should I try to see while I am there, best places to buy gas, go to eat, and launch from etc.. I saw the tourist sites but those are biased and I would perfer the input from you the regulars. Thanks in advance ciao..........Leonard

Plenty of them on the Sac arm above and below Sugarloaf and in Salt Creek.

Poor man's houseboat = patio boat. If they have a bathroom they can stay out overnight. We've done it several times. Same mobility as a houseboat, but without the walls. Holiday Harbor has a nice 50 footer with two "bathrooms" and two bbq's. We've "camped" on that with (9) people.
