Ok, I just found out I am moving to FT Lauderdale and I am wanting to know if there are any places to ride down there besides the ICW? I know about Okeechobee but I want to find out about some smaller lakes and spots close by.

You can call Miami Ski Nautique, www.miamiskinautique.com and they can hook you up with something. They're excellent people!

Hey, Check out Dean lavelle and Ski Rixen when you get there. Through them you can get plugged in quickly.

Check out a review of these places at http://www.dcwake.com/content/view/65/1/

That is what chris said, call Miami Ski Nautique and talk to someone there. They are good people and can point you in a good direction to go ride or meet people

Jeff, I live down here, somebody PM'd me a place that they go ride called Markham Park that is supposed to be wakeboard friendly. They ride behind a PWC there, but I am pretty sure that it is open for boats, I wish I could tell you how much it is to put in there. I will ask around for other places to ride.

Here is the link for Markham, not too much info about boating on it though http://www.sunrisefl.gov/2park_markham.html
I am in Davie which is west of Ft. Lauderdale (downtown)by about 10 minutes, and this is about 15-20 minutes west of the downtown area.

I highly recomned Dean Lavell's and ski rixen, and if you go to either of those places you'll quickly hook up with the local scene and have plenty of places to ride and people to ride with. God luck! You can check out both places online:

www.wakeboard-school.com - Dean Lavelle's
www.skirixenusa.com - Ski Rixen Cable Park

Dean is a good guy. You could call him and he would fill you in on the other spots. There are a bunch of canals just a little north of Dean's place.

Is deans Place a public lake? I have heard conflicting stories about it. All good info though, I just bought a new Mobius and not wakeboarding isn't an option so as long as I am not sharing the ICW with the rest of the crazy boaters down there then I will be happy. Just gotta find one or two little lakes or canals and I'll be str8t. Thanks guys.

You have a couple of options in South Florida. Mills Pond is a nice private lake but you need to be a member of the ski club and be approved by the city of Fort Lauderdale for your insurance. Your next lake is Okeeheelee in West Palm Beach and you must be approved by the recreation dept and have the proper insurance. Last is Lake Osborne in Lake Worth... Public park great boat ramps... only problem are the wave runners.....
