I need some futher advise about which amp to choose.
I would like to have a simple install and have only the one amp, the alpine 4.150 to power the pair of Wetsound 485's. However I have thought of using two JL300/2 and they are maybe the better choice.
The alpine is less space evasive, only one amp kit and digital. The JLs are $80 bucks more expensive and more work to install plus two amp kits but maybe a better power source.

I lean toward the alpine because I wanted to add the pdx 600.1 down the line for another sub and I can stack them and save space. Any advise to help in the decision IS needed.

Thanks

I made the choice to go with JL because they are rated at 11.5v and not 14.4. I've never seen a boat able to put out 14.4v with the stereo going. I like Alpine too and researched going that direction. Just my opinion.

Check out Cadence as well... This will do 150x4 @ 4 ohms or 300x4 @ 2.

I mean 11v. Beats the hell out of 13.8v or 14.4v like the other amps.

The voltage thing is a big deal. Nu Bu is right.

But the bigger thing for me is the rather high distortion you are going to have out of the PDX or any class D amplifier playing at full range. Class D's are not musical. They are fine for sub amps, but if you are into clarity and not just volume, I would keep those things away from midranges and tweeters.

Mmatts...I know someone who has one for sale.

Get the JL's out of those two choices.

Well I think based on these factors alone, voltage and class for application, that the JL's are the clear choice. Its funny that the best solution is always the most expensive one.

Thanks guys

Never realized JL's were so efficient. Pretty impressive I may have to head that way next time around.

Just the slash amps Hate, 08 JL lineup includes some digital designs to rated at 11v also.

I always look for the voltage rating in amp specs. In a boat you can figure they are going to be running at 12v most of the time. If you are buying an amp rated at 14.4v you can just about divide the output in half when it is running at 12v. Definately a consideration. I have been one of the biggest proponents of the Alpine amps but the 4150 seems a bit light for powering Pro485s if you really want to push them hard. You might be better off with the JL/v2 or Cadence.

This is purely based on what I have read from others. I have not heard either setups in person.

You might want to PM Adam Curtis, I believe he is running his Wetsounds off a 4150.

Arent the Boston Acoustic amps rated at 12 or 12.5v also? I've been hearing more about them lately.

Yes the are rated at 12.6v (GT models anyways), better then most of the other competition.

can I cheat for a season with 1 JL300/2? the speakers are mono so they would get 150 watts or so aside right?

Try it out you might be surprised, I'd look on craigslist in your area and see if you can find one.
