importance of wake

Most of us aren't doin backrolls or raleys so lets be honest, most of us only wakeboard about 50% of the time. The other half of you are tryin to fit as many people on your boat as possible. So just admit, you bought your boat to party. A nice wake is cool but don't base you decision solely based on that. With that being said, admit that you want a cool lookin boat, load it up with beat and see you when we tie up.

I disagree. I have no Desire to just sit on a boat and tie up. I do agree that I like to have stereo pumped up, but I go out to ride and ride only. Thats why in the summer time I hardly go out on the weekends because its jamed packed with boats.

For us, it all depends on weather & water conditions. If the water is like butter, we're 100% gaurunteed to be riding the entire time. If it is rough, like it has been for the last 3 weeks, we're either tubing or we're just hanging out on the boat taking it easy.

I agree with Jory. I bought my boat for a mixture of wakeboarding, and just relaxing not worring about a damn thing. If the water is decent we board all day long. When the water is choppy or windy we kick back and relax.

I ride during the week, early in the mornings, at dusk... during the middle of the day you can catch me at the waterfall on don pedro with my friends tied up to a bunch of other boats partying. My parents will be there too. Their party boat is what we all tie on to.

I dissagree. If i am on the water i am wakeboarding... when we are done, we leave. Small lake, nothing much to do if you are not sliding.

I go out 99.9% of the time to ride. The other .1 is the wakesurf if it's choppy

Wake is pretty important to me. I don't do backrolls or raleys but that does not mean that I dont want to.

if it is too choppy on the lake during the weekend to ride, what do you do? Not use your boat on the weekends? But our lake isnt small. Everyone heads up to the waterfall and hangs out

75% Stuff other than wakeboarding it's true. However, when it is time to board I want a nice rampy wake with a smooth transition. I'm with most of ya at my lake if you wanna ride it has to be early so thats when we go. The rest of the day is filled with loud music and Heineken's.

No, I based my decision 100% on buying what I considered the best dedicated wakeboard boat that fit my needs.

That said, I sit and enjoy the lake more than I wakeboard. We tie up all the time. Hell, we have been known to go up and never leave the slip.

But when I do wakeboard, I didn't want to settle. I can hang out in any boat, my Cobalt did a fine job at that....but the pulls suffered. That is why I purchased my boat....100% related to tow ability. It only fits about 6 comfortably anyway.... But we(the people we hang with) have more boats than we need....so no worries with people room.

I WISH I HAD a BOAT! THEN I COULD DO IT ALL! right?

We go out to wakeboard. 7 AM every morning, ride the butter, and sometimes do some surfing when the wind starts to pick up. Once in a while we will anchor out by the state park, but we didn't buy a wakeboard boat to sit around and try to look cool...

Plus if we didn't have the "my wake is better than your wake" arguement, we would spend all of our time on this board arguing about which boat brand is the best brand (which we seem to do about every two days)

Its all about the wake for me. I would say that the 10% of the time that I spend "partying in my boat" doesnt even factor into the equation of choosing a wake boat. In fact I just installed another switchable fat sac in my boat. Now my 2000 vlx has 5 fat sacs on switches, and not a single margarita machine!

im a crappy rider but i do like a good wake, for me buying a boat has alot to do with the wake. i really like to surf and would never buy a boat with a bad surf wake! but right now i have an xlv and i love the wake but it's a big boat sometimes too big! so im selling it and will likely downsize to an lsv, the wake is deffinitely better on my xlv but like i said im a crappy rider and it's not enough to make a difference to me.

Got mine for the wake first and interior second. Several boats would put out a good wake so interior became the driving factor. Riding the delta is pretty much an all day thing.

importance of wake?

well, this is WAKEworld. On the sister site, Chillworld, wake is less of a factor.

I can't say I bought my boat ('98 chaparral) for the wake. For the most part I can make a wake with people and ballast. I got it because I could afford it, it came with a tower, and it had an open bow to take extra people on.

That being said, we are probably in the 50/50 group when it comes to riding or relaxing.

definitely bought my boat because of the wake (price had a factor too).

we ride 5-6 days a week. for the most part it breaks down like this...

when the water is calm enough:
90% wakeboard
5% surf
5% barefoot


not calm enough:
70% surf
20% wakeboard
10% chill/party

another thing...who says you can party while you are riding???

If my boat was in the water, somebody was riding behind it, we never cruise or tie up anywhere. We board on a river so we can always find decent water and if we can't, we surf. I bought the boat that would produce the best wake that would fit in my budget. I didn't have a stereo in it (although it would have been nice) and I didn't particularly care that it wasn't the best looking boat on the river. So, in my case I bought the boat for the wake. Otherwise, I would buy an I/O that had alot of interior room and storage, they usually ride better and can go faster.

For some reason, I've always been into stereos - but i'm too old for bump in my car now - so i've found its socially acceptable to build a stereo for the boat!

That being said, I cant do crap, but I love going out and pushing myself

Occasionally we will tie up but thats to section off part of the lake to keep a nice riding area or once everyone is done go and float for a little bit to get ready for round 2. Wake has the most importance to me.

lol tubing and skiing are just as fun as wakeboarding when its windy and these giant boats (small lake+many 20-something ft boats=bad water) keep tearing it up... tubing especially

i don't think anything is as fun as wakeboarding on some butter...just me though

One of the things to consider about us Californian's is that many of us (Delta riders excluded) drive 2-3 hours just to get to fresh water. So we leave early and stay late, which causes us to spend a lot more time in our boats (10-12 hours a day) when we are out on the water. I never used to spend time in my boat when I lived in Seattle, but now in Nor Cal, we spend a lot more time "hanging out" in our boats.

I barely remember posting this thread last night at 3AM. LOL. I guess I had a few too many. On a sober note, I do care very much how my wake is. In fact I was obsessing about how to weigh it properly since the day I got my boat, which is funny cuz I suck. But I feel pretty stupid now for saying that a good wake doesn't matter on a wakeboarding boat. Besides some of my friends are good, they'd probably be pissed if I dropped that much bread and had a crappy wake. Sorry for the drunk post. Hahahaha, there really is a chillworld.

i have a cabin so i hang out on the dock. the only time im in my boat is when were wakeboarding.

I just want everyone to have fun and a smile on their face so my day depends on who is on the boat. I dont have a wake specific boat but we have a blast on it and everyone who comes out has a great time..

I feel wakeboarding is a lifestyle sport and there is much more too it than just the act of wakeboarding itself. Besdies the ride, it serves to bring together a group of people with common interests. How many of you have made great friends through wakeboarding?

I realized that as much as I want to ride all day (like in snowboarding), my body can't take it. Plus with as much weight as we put in there, the needle moves towards E quick. With those plus the socialization aspect, I wanted a boat that wake was the priority, but it could do everything else I wanted it to as well. 06 X2 seemed to fit the bill pretty well. It takes chop well when cruising across the lake, plenty of room to hang out, zippy enough to barefoot, awesome wakesurf wake, flat out fun to drive (almost like my old prostar in smooth water), and I thought it looked great. So to answer your question, of course wake was the priority, but the other factors were important as well. I just like Boating in general too, as I'm sure a lot on here do.

Indeed there is a chillworld but it's made up of a bunch of posers. They all act like they just want to hang out on the lake all day but then you hear them talking about their awesome ballast setup and crap like that. Improving wake? What does that have to do with chilling? Just thinking about those awesome chill machines driving around at 20MPH throwing tsunamis when they could be anchored and partying makes me sick. How could someone waste their boat like that?

About 6-7 of us go out nearly every weekend and we all ride maybe 2 10 minute sessions the rest of the time is spent wake surfing or just hanging out listening to music having a drink and some good food.

My boat choice was for an all around boat that would stand the test of time. We slalom and surf for the most part, but we do board and skate as well. NO TUBING. Grab a stick fool. We will booze-cruise around Tahoe now and again and I wanted a boat that would take some serious abuse if need be as well as be comfortable for chillin'. I don't need the absolute best wake on the planet and my boat will put out more than enough to get anything I or anyone else in the crew need done. It's still as solid as the day I bought it.

I am the same way i go out to ride and ride only. Whether its wakeboarding or surfing something on a board, Loud music always helps the enviroment.

My last boat was the all around boat. I bought this one based entirely on the wake. That being said, we have been know to kick back a few and hang out when the water turns to crap. We went out Sunday knowing the water would suck and brought along fishing poles. Still trying to figure out how to reel without spilling my beverage.
