I'm thinking of upgrading my sub amps to 1 larger amp and running it at 1 ohm. Does anyone have any recommendations on some 1500.1 amps that they've used or heard that really pounded? I'm going to change out my existing amps and use the new one to run 2 Kicker S12L7 12" subs (750 watts RMS each).

The ones I'm checking out so far are:

Kicker ZX1500.1
Massive Audio p1500.1
Diamond Audio D6 1500.1

I had an 03 Power series 1001BD @ 1 ohm putting out 1470 watts @ 30Hz. Find them on ebay from time to time.

Chas - thanks for the suggestion, but that's a little out of my price range!! Sick amp though...

Chas - just out of curiousity, how would you wire that JBL amp to get the proper wattage to match the 2 L7 subs? From the specs online, that amp will do 2450watts RMS x 1 into 4 ohms or 1810watts RMS x 1 into 1 ohm.

With my subs being 4ohm DVC, how would you use this amp correctly on 2 750watt subs?

Are your subs dual 4ohm or dual 2ohm?
The JBL is happier at 4ohm.

They are dual 4ohm.

Memphis makes good d class amps also.
You could use a MCD1000

I've already got 2 Memphis MCD500 - 1 on each of the L7's and I feel like they are underpowered.

I think the Memphis amps are rated at 14.4volts, so I guess I'm really only getting ~400watts or so to each of the subs.

I guess what I'm thinking is that the subs COULD sound better, and that's what I'm going for.

The MCD1500 is a consideration though...

The MCD1500 won't work with your subs. It is only stable down to a 2ohm load.

Those things should rock, how big are the boxes for the subs?

I've got the memphis mcd1000 hooked up to 2 JL 12w6v2's wired parallel and I'm not to impressed either. I've got another 12w6v2 hooked up to the sub channel of my kicker 700.5 and it slams way harder than the 2 off the memphis. All three subs are in identical boxes. Any advice Chas?

You have to get that amp down to 1ohm, witch it sounds like you do. Could be sub location also but that amp should have plenty of power for the 12w6.

I know the 2 sub locations aren't helping things. But they just don't sound clear, I have the crossover's on the amp set correctly. I actually think that amp is seing 1.5 ohms. It just doesn't seem like it's pushing 1000 watts to me. I'll keep playing with it to see what I can do.

The boxes are about 2.0 ft^3 (sealed), and almost identical in size. One is under the driver and one is under the observer's seat.

They hit pretty hard, but sound better at lower volume, which makes me think they could sound better when played louder if I had a better amp on them.

Am I right in assuming that with the Memphis MCD500 amps being rated at 500watts at 14.4volts, I'm really only getting about 400watts or so to each of the subs?

That seems like it could be a big issue - only feeding 400wats to a 750watt RMS sub. Thanks again for the input Chas.

Ya, the L7's would like more power.

Thanks.

Well, I'm still thinking of the Massive P1500.1 at 1ohm for the subs.

Any other suggestions? Would a 2000.1 turned way down do the job too?
