Hey, just got a 92 Nautique Exel and have a problem with the steering pulling to the left. This does not exert a great deal of pull and is not a major issue while I am holding it but if I ever had to take my hands off the wheel it would definitely head off-course pretty quickly.

Any idea's on a fix (I know the first one is never take my hands off the wheel, but apart from that)

There was talk about shaving the rudder a while back - this year?

It's normal and allows you to steer through a tight slalom course. That little pressue makes the steering more precise while going straight. Otherwise you would slightly drift one way or the other.

Nothing to worry about but if it's a big pain you might be able to shave one side of the rudder to offset the factory bias. But I wouldn't do it.

It's made to do that. Constant pressure against the wheel helps keep it straight down the course. Don't know why a BF boat would be concerned with that, but if they use the same rudder, you'll get the same result. The newer Nauti's have the tunable rudder. You can adjust them so it doesn't pull. I'd talk to my dealer before trying to shave/grind it.

Like everyone else said, it's made to do that. You could grind the rudder if you wanted to stop it, but I wouldn't.

If you run a search in these forums, you'll find extensive info on this particular topic.

Thanks guys, feel a little better that it is not a mechanical problem.

So I guess I answered my own question there - Don't let go of the wheel.
