I have been told I can run another wire to my reverse lights or something to automatically disengage the serge brakes when reversing. Has anyone done this and how do you do it. I have a 5 flat to 7 round adapter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It should do that automatically. Have an RV shop wire your truck and you should be good to go.

The 5th wire on the trailer plug should go to the reverse light wire on the truck, the adapter should automatically make that happen. Some factory trailer plugs require that you add a fuse to the circuit under the hood. There is an empty slot in the underhood fuse panel.
