I see that Shasta is only at 1007' now and full capacity is about 1060'. I am planning on camping on the Sacramento arm 3rd week in June. Any hope that I won't be a ridiculous length from the water? I have been there at 1040' and that was tolerable but a still a little hike from camp to the boat.

I am hoping someone will say there is ton of snow left to melt off yet.

For Shasta Lake on 4/9/08
Level: 59.12 feet down
Outflow: 6,348 cfs
Inflow: 5,107 cfs
The outflow will be around 7,000 cfs until August, and Shasta probably will not fill up much more than what it is now. March was very dry, and snow levels are average now. Get here early. It will probably be a mud hole after July. I'll be hitting Whiskeytown this year. It's always full in the summer.

Too bad. How about Trinity? Is that lake full or does it have the same problems?

Not sure about Trinity levels, but Trinity and Shasta are both about 66 percent full according to DWR. Whiskeytown is 91 percent full. It will be in the mid-eighties in Redding this weekend, so we will start to see some runoff. Shasta Skipark has 20 inches at the lodge (5,500 ft) today. If closing day was not this Sunday, it would be very soon after that.

Yeah unfortunately Shasta isnt gonna have a whole lot of usable shorline by mid summer. Once Whiskytown warms up every year thats were I boat anyways, better than Shasta IMO.

When does Whiskytown warm up? That lake is always cold since they pull the water out of the bottom of Trinity. I love Whiskytown (during the week only) since it is constant level, but weekends are a mad house and it is too cold for my wife (who loves Shasta's warm water).

Well compared to Shasta it never warms up. Mid June on Whiskytown is in the high 70's and perfect with cristal clear water. Shasta's like taking a dirty bath for the most part.
