I have spent the last 4 years getting my 89 Malibu Sunsetter modified and rebuilt. A lot of cash and hours have gone into this old boat but I am pretty happy of the outcome. Have a look and cast a vote. Thanks http://www.wakesiderides.com/rides/index.php?page=out&id=2245

I think it looks great. That was my vision for my Sunsetter before I sold it. I miss that boat and the wake.

Thanks donaldrhill, Aaron, Andy and Dubbe. I have put a pile of money into this boat, definitely won't get much of it back when I sell it but it has been fun. Last year we put in a fully automatic ballast system with 2 Jabsco Ballast Puppies, with 4 flyhigh fat sacs giving the boat a total of 1500 lbs ballast with another 500 bag on a semi automatic pump. I will try to get some picks of the ballast in the near future.

Aaron Nice ride. I was just at the boat show this weekend and really liked the looks of the Supra Launch SSV. I especially liked the loveseat setup behind the driver. How do you like the boat? How is the surf wake and have you ever skied behind it?

Thanks. I love mine it does every thing I need and then some. I would love to have the new style 22ssv. Mine is the older style. I have never surfed or skied behind it. Wake board only.

Rob I just bought an 89 And I wanted to get in contact with you about where you mounted your paddle wheel for your PerfectPass unit, and did you do anything special to reinforce the areas where you mounted the tower? By the way your boat looks awesone!

Matthew The tower was reinforced to be safe using plywood and fiberglass. I believe the paddlewheel is on the drivers side close to the motor. I will have to check next time I am out.

I have seen Rob's boat in person while some of the work was being done at Dandy Auto and Marine. Looks great up close. Lots of time and effort I am sure!

That is sick!! Makes me want to sell my '05 Supra 24V for an older project boat to make my own (probably not much cheaper though).

Thanks Trent. Are you a customer at Dandy? Nice ride by the way, is it from Wizzard Lake Marine in Calmar? I hope to pick up a new boat in the next few years hopefully a 23LSV or 21VLX. Gotta luv Malibu. However I was at the boat show at the Telus Center this past weekend and the new 22 SSV from Supra looks pretty sweet.

you probably saw my boat that year at the shows or on the showroom floor. 276 hours later and still going strong. What do you have now?

Dude It looks great! But you went limo dark on the windshield. To dark, looks out of place. I did mine in regular tint fits right in. But good job..mine is 80% of being done also. Thumbs up!

i love that boat. Probably the best looking sunsetter out there, no matter what year you throw out there I will aways have a special place in my heart for older boats....maybe cause I have one. I love it. How much did it cost you to get your engine bored and stroked? Heres mine... http://www.wakesiderides.com/rides/index.php?page=out&id=1562

Eric, A fair bit of work was done on the motor. The old one was put in the trash and we started from scratch, bored a 5.7 long block out to 30 over and it is running at 10:1 compression. The total bill on the boat to date I estimate around $20k plus. Not sure on the exact price of the motor alone.

Agreed Andrew - next one will have a lighter tint similar to yours. Its just a bit too dark and not overly practical.

Rob- Will you ever sell your boat? You won't be able to get everything back that you put into it but you will hopefully get a lot back. Your sunsetter and the guy with an older sunsetter who made his own version of the illusions tower are my two favorites ever.

"getting your money back" becomes kinda irrelevant at some point. Its a toy you're going to enjoy, hopefully for years. It may seems crazy to keep dumping money into an old rig, but hopefully someone will appreciate the upgrades when it comes time to sell. not to mention getting years of enjoyment out of the boat. I've done a few upgrades on my old MC, about to start on some engine work. Its fun to bring back an old girl back to "race ready" shape. and something to be proud of. Nice work on your bu. How many horses is your BB kicking down?

The shop figures 330 hp. I agree with you Nacho, and when it comes time to sell hopefully there is someone out there that will appreciate all the upgrades etc. Thanks

I am a customer at Dandy. I have a 1997 Mariah that I have had the engine modified and bored out much like you did. The only diff is it is a 4.3l Merc. We have had issues with the boat but Daryn has worked with me all the way through. It looks like the carb was causing me all the issues we were having. We fell in love with the VLX at after a good buddy kept telling me about it at Calmar. Stopped, looked and signed the paperwork. When I get the Mariah back I will go and bring home the new baby! I think there may ne a little difference between the two boats!
