Got my MRI results last week. Bottom line: after age 25 the intervertabral spinal discs get more fragile and are less and less able to handle a high impact sport like wakeboarding in much the same way very few people can withstand the high impact hits of the NFL after age 30. Bad analogy: the disc in a young person is like fresh bread. In an older person it's like a cracker. If you're 44, consistent wakeboarding with the occasional hard "whiplash" fall can crush some crackers! Suggestion: Clear with your doctor, but if you are over 30, at least get an X-Ray of your cervical spine and find out to what degree the discs have thinned. Then monitor from time to time with additional x-rays.
