Ported enclosures work best when built right for open areas. I run one 12" by the driver's feet, port firing forward. Sealed enclosures are much simpler to build, and work better for closed areas, such as cars, trucks, etc. Ported work better in open areas such as boats. Home theater systems usually run ported subs, because they are usually in an open area. Most concerts subs are the same also. In all, both can be made to sound good.
