Whats the difference between the late 70's to late 80's ski nautiques versus the same years ski nautiques 2001??? is it length or more than that??? Pictures they look identical but im sure theres a bow or length difference. Can anyone fill me in??? THANKS!

The ski nautique 2001 hull is specific to 1982 thru 1989...named 2001 because they are 20 ft, 1 in when you include the platform.

Oh ok right on!! So you think a 79 ski nautique would throw just as nasty a wake when wighted as a 2001 or not???

I think the older they get beyond the 2001 hull, the narrower they get and I'm sure that will affect the wake, definitely the amount of space you have to put ballast in the boat (which already is cramped to begin w/)

Actually the 2001 hull being 20' 1" (with platform) was pretty much a fluke, I think.

As all of you know, the 20th anniversary of the Ski Nautique was 1981. Well, in 1982 Correct Craft gave the Ski Nautique its first major hull redesign and they subsequently called it the 2001 hull, or 20 01, as in the first model after the 20th anniversary. The original idea was there would be a 2002 hull the next year, 2003 after that, 2004 and so on. Well, the response to the 2001 hull was so overwhelming that they decided to stick with it and continued to make the 2001 hull through 1989.

Sorry for the Copy & Paste.

I got carried away on this one, but...

Well, as for appearances:

1981 CC Ski Nautique
Upload

1982 CC Ski Nautique 2001 (hood scoop as well as sticker/vinyl change)
Upload

1985 CC Ski Nautique 2001 (notice the sticker/vinyl change)
Upload

1987 CC Ski Nautique 2001 (notice the sticker/vinyl change, split windshield, and another hood scoop change)
Upload

1989 CC Ski Nautique 2001 (another vinyl change, back to single windshield)
Upload

All pics taken from CorrectCraftFan.com

I think that is pretty exhaustive as far as exterior appearances go... Anyone want to add anything? Heh...

Anyone ever wakeboard behind an old mid 80's barefoot nautique? It has a different hull, a deep v all the way to the transom, they throw a mountain of a wake at 21m without any ballast. plus you get the big block 454 chevy(another +200 lbs)
no barefooters really want them today because the wake was too tall so prices are cheap cheap,

I want to add something. The '89 came with different exhaust and a different transmission. The exhaust was super quiet compared to previous years and the tranny was a 1.23 to 1 rather than the straight 1 to 1. I have experience with both an '87 and an '89 and would tell someone to try to hold out for an '89 if possible.

Jesse, didn't you have a deal going on an older Supra about about a year ago. If you are looking for an older 2001 there are a couple at www.sonwatersports.com,which is just north of Minneapolis, including an '89 with the 454. A little high on the price but would be one of the better 2001's that are in the area.

The Pre-82 Nattys still throw a decent wake, however it is narrower and not as big as the SN2001. Its tempting to buy a Pre-82 because they are generally cheaper, but I'd recommend being patient and finding a deal on a 2001.

Get a 1988 or 1989. I just sold my 1988 2001. That boat was sick! Throw 2 540lbs sacks on the side of the motor box, 400lbs in the back and 250lbs in the bow, reprop it with a Acme 542 and you have your self a killer wakeboard boat!

You cannot use 542 on a 89' because of the gearbox reduction. You can use the 542 on 1:1 direct drive boats.

Mike K(mike2001)- An interesting fact that I learned on Correctcraftfan.com is that the 2001 was not actually named for its length but for being the first hull after the 20th anniversary hull. Pretty cool
